18 Month Old Has Been Vomiting 1-4 Times a Day for a Month W/ No Other Symptoms

I have a dear friend with an 18 month old daughter. Although my friend has taken her daughter to the doctor for testing numerous times in the last month, they still have no answers as to why she keeps vomiting 1-4 times per day. My friend is very careful not to over feed and closely monitors what her daughter eats. There have been no incidents of head trauma and it doesn't seem to be an allergy. Other than the vomiting, her daughter has been acting like a normal 18 month old. I'm wondering if anyone out there has had any problems like this with their kids or if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Wow, a month is a long time. Did he start with a virus? My son (2 1/2 now) has always had stomach issues and was actually hospitalized once around that age for dehydration. He had a virus last fall that started like the stomach bug but after a few days he seemed normal in other ways but would still vomit once a day for probably 10 days or so. I was told that for some kids, with low immune systems it may take them longer to get over the virus. He had also been on oral prednisone for a severe asthma attack previous to this which lowers their immune system. He did eventually stop vomiting probably around 10 days.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this helps but I would take the child to another doctor or maybe a specialist at this point. It seems rather long to be virus related.

Hi K.,
My son experienced the same thing...intermittent vomitting without fever, diarrhea or other symptoms. I played with his diet a bit to see if it was an intolerance or allergy but no change. My son had been constipated though. And during his vomitting "episodes" he would appear to be in great pain (would writhe in pain, vomit and then become lethargic). I'm not sure if this sounds at all familiar but it turns out he had an intestinal blockage. Intassusception is the medical term and while it is more common in boys (3x more common) it can occur in girls. If you have further questions or want more detail you can email me personally. Good luck!

Hi sorry to hear about your friends 18 month old. I know how frustrating it is. Has your friend tried a chiropratic. A lot of times it is a sublexation and easily fixed with an adjustment. I've taken my son who is also 18 months old since he was 2 days old. They fix just a bout anything with an adjustment. Dr. Kiser is awasome with kids. Give it a try, what do you have to lose. Dr. Kiser is at University Chiropractic in Palo Alto. #650- ###-###-#### www.UniversityChiroCA.com

She works wonders ear infections, colds, gassy tummies.

good luck

I am wondering if it could be a sign of an underlying kidney situation. I would ask to have tests repeated and referral to urologist or specialist. This is not normal for a child that age as we know. Perhaps the little one has other symptoms, like discomfort or burning upon urination but has lived with this and knows no difference.I hope they get an answer soon.
