I am 11 weeks pregnant with baby #2. Baby #1 was born pre-maturely at 34 weeks and spent a very long 3 weeks in the NICU. I know the risk of having another preemie is high for me now. My doctor suggested the 17P shots. I would like to know if you had luck with them, side effects, etc...
Thanks!

Like you, my oldest son was born prematurely at 34 weeks and stayed two weeks in the NICU. My doctor advised me to take the progesterone shots with my second. My husband went with me to the appointment with the first shot at 16 weeks and the nurse trained him to give me the shots. He gave them in my hip until I delivered at 36 weeks. I didn't have any side effects except soreness. I felt that I was doing what was best for my baby.

My first baby was born at 26wks so naturally my doctor put me on 17p shots for my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. I'd say they worked. My second baby was born at 35wks and my third baby was born at 37wks. I did not have any side effects...a little sore afterwards but it went away.

I was given Progesterone suppositories. No problem or side effects - except they were a touch messy.

I wish you so so much luck!

Hi R.,
I was on 17P shots from the 16th week of my pregnancy until the 36th week. They worked for me even though I still had regular contractions for most of my pregnancy the shots kept me uterus relaxed enough that they didn't do anything. If your doctor is recommending them I would say take them as it is much better than your little one being born before he/she is ready. I was on medicaid and they paid for a home health nurse to come out to my house once a week to give me my shots, made it very convenient. The shots aren't to bad other than they burn when the medicine is going in(kinda like a tetanus shot) and they give them to you in your hip or arm. I did mine in my hip because it seemed to be alot less sore afterwards... hope this helps good luck and God bless

I had my first child at 35 weeks and so my insurance company recommended getting the shots (the shots are cheaper in the long run than a premie in NICU). I started at 16 weeks and got my last one at 36 weeks. I delivered a healthy baby girl at 38 weeks! I had no side effects from the shots and I highly recommend them. Good Luck!
