I have a friend that had a similar problem. She gave her a vanilla shake that is nutricionally perfectly balanced meal replacement. You can get more info on my website at www.firstfitness.com/mpmondsini. The product is called Shake FX.

My first question would be what does your pediatrician think about this? If you haven't spoken to them yet, I would before you take any adivise from other moms.
I do know that my daughter was 2 and had a similiar issue. The pediatrician said it would pass and it did.

Good luck

hi S.. i am a mom to a three year old son. my son never liked food either. i started trying him on baby cereals at age 4 months/ then a baby food/ (of applesauce). he would never do anything but play in it. we eventually got refered to a specialist,("food therapist"). (this is done by a speech therapist that has been trained in food eversion,( or kids that dont like to eat.) we have been seeing a food therapist for years, and he hasnt made much progress. he was breast+ formula feed for his first year. we finally got refered to a g-i dr. that place a g-tube/ to be tube fed/ he gets 4-5 pediasures a day, (to this day!) my son has "gerd" (which is acid reflux desease+ sensory issues/ he doesnt like certain textures in his mouth. he will now only eat a little bit of some finger foods, which doesnt amount to much. if your daughter continues to be this way, you might want to notify her pediatrician, and get a referal to a food therapist. i have been told that some kids with problems like mine dont really start eating till age 4 sometimes, but others do earlier. good luck! i know its tough, but you will get through this!

Just a couple of thoughts...
***Call your pediatrician to schedule an appointment. You should discuss these concerns with him/her b/c there may be a nutrient deficiency that needs to be looked at. Your pediatrician should be prescribing a multivitamin at this age- starting at 12 months!***
- At this age, your daughter should be using a sippy cup, not a bottle
- Typically solids are introduced around 6 months and slowly become the primary source of nutrition by 12 months. Was there a reason that you did not introduce things earlier?
- You may need to start from the beginning- thickening her bottles with cereal and moving into baby foods (veggies, then fruits, then starches then meats)
- Keep in mind that you will need to introduce the foods several times before she will take them
-Put snack foods like Puffs, dry cereal and other Gerber "crawler" items on her tray and let her explore them throughout the meal experience

There may also be a developmental delay present. If your daughter is struggling to verbalize and explore new textures, you should contact your local Early Intervention coordinator and request an evaluation. They may be able to help you both!

First thing is STOP giving her milk! She is highly allergic to it. The body will crave what it is allergic to. Dairy acts as an opiate to the brains of thses children. You will see a withdrawl when you take her off. The 2nd thing is get her up to Broward and seek an evaluation at Therapeeds. They are the best place to go for Sensory Processing Disorder. The sensations of eating are too overwhelming for your daughter's brain and central nervous system. They are giving a free seminar where you can come and hear the information and ask questions. It is May 17th at 6:30pm. Let me know if you would like me to send an invitation. Also check out www.drfergang.com and take her to Dr. LEslie to get treated for the allergies so the blockages for dairy will be freed and then she can once again have dairy products without problems. She practices NAET treatment. The best thing in the world! NAET.com Please e-mial me with any questions but don't let this go as a just a picky toddler. It's not and it will morph into other more serious problems.

Just my two cents - but she will eat when she gets hungry enough. I promise. I have often worried about some of mine not wanting to eat... although its rare, and they are all boys - we have had a few bouts with refusing food.

Longest lasted about 4 days. My 17 month old suddenly decided all he wanted to eat was Gerber Stage 2 Bananas. I would give him one per day at breakfast or for a snack, but then no more (they are like $1 a pack!) and he would flip out.

Four days later he was happily shoveling down mashed potatoes with his brothers.

This is right around the age many kids become picky eaters and ultimately stop eating. My son did the same thing, as soon as my Dr. said not to be suprised when it happens (I didn't see it coming because he had such a healthy appetite). So it sounds like your daughter is totally normal. Just keep trying her with all the foods that you eat and don't become a short order cook for her. She'll eventually come around. My son just started eating (somewhat) again. He LOVES his milk and drinks at least 3-4 cups a day. So as long as she continues to drink her milk you should be fine.

Good Luck!

See Weston Price, and make sure that the milk is super. With WestonPrice you will have some new suggestions.
I'd make barley milk also and mix that with the milk, goats milk too- write me and I'll tell you locally where I get it.
My granddaughter ate so little at that age I knew she'd not grow- and now she is a beautiful teenager- I am amazed that she grew on so little food- but she did!!
best, k

How about adding things to the milk? To get my son to like milk, I would give him a bowl of cheerios with milk and he would eat the cereal and then drink the milk from the bowl. I would also give him little pieces of graham crackers in a bowl with milk. He would eat them and drink the milk.
Good luck.

I say at this age, whatever you can get them to eat, go for it!

have you tried putting out a bowl of gerber graduate puffs??? Our daughter loved to snack on those when she was little and that is what helped to start her on table food. have you tried feeding her solids before now? Usually 4 to 6 months is the time to introduce solids, so if you are just not starting with solids perhaps you should discuss this with your doctor since she will need the nutrients of more than just milk. While she is refusing to eat, I would supplement her drinks with pediasure so that you know she is getting vitamins and minerals.
