I took my daughter to the OBGYN dr. thinking her pain was female issues. They said everything was normal & suggested I take her to an orthopedic dr. They have done xrays, bone scans, & MRI. The orthopedic dr. still has not idea what is causing her such pain. But she only gets the pain when she plays her sports or exercises. Something is causing the pain. Who do I take her to now? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

You should try taking her to a Physiatrist (Rehabilitation Medicine Doctor M.D. & D.O.) or even a Pediatric Physiatrist. They specialize in diagnosing and treating these types of Pains. They also specialize in Sports Medicine. I don't know how close you are to Atlanta but Emory has an excellent Pediatric Physiatrist Joshua Vova, MD. Here is a link to find out more about their facility: www.rehabmed.emory.edu

Hope this helps and she gets better.

I could be off base due to some of the particulars, but has anybody checked her appendix? I remember when I needed mine removed, it seemed to stump the docs as well and then BAM, oh yeah, it's her appendix. Just a thought. Good luck!

It sounds like you are getting to the right kinds of doctors -- but maybe not the right individual doctors. I would get a different orthopedic doctor's opinion. Ask for an ortho. doctor who specializes in sports injuries. Be sure that first you get copies of all the x-rays, scans and MRIs that have already been done! That way, your daughter might not have to undergo all those tests again. Have copies of them ready to show a new orthopedist, who might interpret them differently. Ask if this could be an infection rather than bone or muscle -- there could be an infection that she doesn't feel until she moves the muscles or bones involved in the infection.

By the way, did the ob/gyn do any forms of scans, or just a general checkup and manual exam? Just something to consider. But since this only flares up when she moves certain ways for sports, it sounds more muscular/bone related than gyn. related.

I would not let it go but would be assertive about getting all the records and scans so far, and finding a new doctor. I also would ask to see someone who specializes in sports injuries, not a general orthopedist.

Could it be a muscular tear or inflammation? Have you tried taking Advil? My father had serious pain on his hips and that helped after a couple weeks. He could barely walk!
Maybe a chiropractor can help. Good luck.

Well, a groin pull can happen to anybody.
I did the splits once on wet grass without warming up and ended up barely being able to walk for a few days, but it took several weeks for it to heal to the point where there was no pain at all.
An orthopedic Dr should be able to figure out what is happening to her muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and can recommend stretches/warm ups which should prevent future episodes.
See if there is a place near you that specializes in sports injuries.
They should be able to help.

Hi there,

Please, for the sake of your daughter, don't give up finding the cause and treating this. I am finally after 30 years the most pain free I've been after a year and half with the best occupational therapist's and chiropractor's help. Try to find an OT or PT with Myofascial Release Therapy training. Chiropractic can also help something like this. If you've ruled out all the "bad" stuff, it sounds like there is a muscular or pelvic imbalance causing muscular imbalance. My pelvis was misaligned causing groin pain. I had to deal with it when the 2nd pregnancy put too much strain on the previously strained musculature. There are numerous muscles that attach to the groin and pelvis. Tight adductors could be causing the issue, a tight psoas, weak glutes, hip flexors, lots of options. Good luck to you and your daughter!

Considering all the tests they've done, I would think they allready ruled out ovarian cysts right? if not, that's something I'd check for. Just my 2 cents.

If she is in sports, take her to an orthopedic Dr to have it checked.
It could be as simple as a strain that acts up when she is in sports. So, go talk to the orthopedic Dr.
