Hope you feel better. I just wanted to say that when I was in my second trimester and got sick, the doctor's office told me that they didn't want me to take anything on the "safe list" for more than 3 days. Ater three days, I was still pretty bad, but just had to suffer through it by keeping my head propped up at night, using vick's and a humidifier. Don't stay on any medication too long! Oh, sudacare shower soothers are the best!!

Your OB should give you a list of approved meds, but you can always look online and there are plenty of sites that let you know what is safe. There are lots of meds that you can take safely!! If you feel real bad you should call your doc too, just to be safe. But, it happens to the best of us. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

You should see your doctor. I think you can take Robitussen DM but they can prescribe something that won't hurt the baby.

Hi T.,
when I was pregnant with my first child over 20 years ago the doctor had said that Triaminic was the safest to take while being pregnant. I hope that this helps.

I know you can take tylenol cold. The best thing you can do is not take anything because all of the medicine you take is passed on to the baby, yeah it can be safe if used for only a few days but I wasn't willing to take that chance. When I was pregnant with my daughter I never took anything and I had at least 3 bad colds during my pregnancy. With my second pregnancy I had mono and still did not take any medication at all and trust be I was out of work for a week with mono and sick for 3 mths. The only time I ever took medication was when I had pink eye. I was willing to suffer knowing by baby wasn't being exposed to anything that was unnecessary. Trust me I know how aweful and hard it can be to be pregnant and not be able to take any medication but if you think about your baby it makes the sacrafice that much easier. The only time you really need to take something is when your running a fever because high fevers can have a negative impact on your baby. I hope you feel better and think about things before you make the decision to take any medication. You will feel better in a few days and the medicine doesn't help you get over the cold sooner it just makes the symptoms not as bad.

Hi T.! I had the same exact thing when I was pregnant with my 1st daughter. My OB said that I could take anything Tylenol. I am sure you will want to check with your doctor about this, but I have 2 girls and took it with both when it was really tough!
On the flip side,Congratulations on your baby!

Take Care,

Hi T.. I'm a breastfeeding mom and a week after I came home I had the flu with a terrible cough. I called my ped. and they told me that the safest thing to use was Tylenol Cough & sore throat. It works like NightQuil but is safe for you and your baby. Remember that for us pregnant and breastfeeding mothers Tylenol is safe to use. All Tylenol products are safe. So dont worry if your not feeling good there's a product that is safe. Hope you feel better and Congrats on your new baby!

I think she is right, however you could call your OB and see what they say. I thought Tylenol was safe, however you still may be too early in pregnancy.

Check with your OB but I was told while I was pregnant that any Tylenol products are safe, (Tylnol Cold, Tylenol Sinus, Tylenol PM...all safe), so far none of my 3 kids seem to have been affected by them. Good Luck

You might want to talk to your doctor. When I was in my first trimester, I developed bronchitis. I couldn't stop coughing. My doc prescribed me some antibiotics and an inhaler. I also think I may have used a whole jar of VICKS vapor rub. It was aweful. I think there are some medicines that you can take while preg. I can't remember what they are but the pharmacist should be able to help if you can't get in to see the doc right away. Hope this helps. If I can find my cheat sheet for what meds are allowed I will let you know. Good Luck. Oh by the way there is nothing to be scared about. I am a first time mom and it is absolutely the best thing I have ever done!

I was in your shoes when I was pregnant. Call your O.B. and ask what he/she recommends. I believe mine told me to take Robitussin, but I can't remember. They also told me it was ok to take Tylenol Sinus. Good Luck and feel better!

Hi. I don't think there is anything you can really take this early in the pregnancy without it affecting the baby. You might just have to wait this one out.

Try some green tea with a teaspoon of honey for the throat and the coughing. It helped me. I've had 4 kids and was pregnant with 2 of my kids during the winter and I stayed with a cold.

Call a Walgreens or CVS and ask the pharmacist what you can take. They will probably tell you to call your doctor, who in turn with probably tell you there is nothing you can do for the coughing except take a cough drop.

You can take Sudaphed. Just be careful with what you do take? Do you have a Dr.? If you don't call your local health department for a list of medications safe during pregnancy. You can probably try WebMD also. Check to see if you area has a Healthy Start program as well, When you call the Health Department they can tell you that.

With both my pregnancies, I had terrible colds that I just couldn't shake. Both times it was in my final trimester, though and for my second pregnancy I had an uncontrollable cough & my chest was really starting to hurt from it. Finally, the Dr. ended up prescribing a cough medicine - with Codeine I think (Eek!) so that I could sleep at night. I'm sure that wouldn't be allowed at your stage, but if you're not getting better and are losing sleep, then I'm sure your OB/Gyn could recommend something else for you to take. There are too many medicines for us to know which is the right one. Once I gave birth, my cough cleared up in a day or two, go figure.
