Ok moms I need advice. My 15mo threw up last Thursday night. Seemed to be fine on Friday (spit up a little but it was more like an acid reflux just a little bit of spit up not his entire stomach contents). Saturday he had lose stools and seemed a little under the weather. When I sat him down for lunch I gave him chicken nuggets and applesauce and a small glass of milk. A little into lunch which I think he only took one drink of milk and a bit of applesauce he threw up again. Then on Sunday he had diahrea all day but seemed fine. He was eating graham crackers and banannas and keeping everything in. Took him to daycare on Monday and he got sent home 10 mins after being there for a temp of 100.5. Once he was home his fever was a little higher but not too bad. I made him an appt because my kids are prone to ear infections. By the time we were at the doctor he had a fever of 102 but she said she didn't see anything wrong and to start introducing more foods back into his diet. I stuck to what I knew he would eat the crackers and banannas plus water and a little bit of pedialite. Then on Tuesday morning he woke up and his fever was 101.5 gave him just a little tylenol because you can tell he is uncomfortable. after about 10 his fever went away and he didnt get one the rest of the day. Seemed to be feeling better also. Only thing added was gatorade to change up from just plain water. But I watered the getorade down and only gave him a little. Last night for dinner we gave him ramon noodles and grilled cheese. He started eating the noodles fine but put too many in his mouth and gagged. So we took them away from him and he had a few bites of his sandwich. He seemed to be acting normal with the exception of randomly crying every few minutes. Then after I put him to bed I heard him in his crib fussing I looked in on him and he had thrown up again it looked to be just banannas and gatorade but not sure. Today his temp hasnt reached above 99.8 but he is still uncomfortable and crying every few minutes or so. He does not know what he wants to eat and seems to just be feeling unwell. Do you think it is the flu, teething, or maybe he ended up getting an ear infection? Please help I have never had my kids sick longer than 4 days and we are almost at a week. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I don't think that little man should be throwing up for almost a week. Please call the doctor. It is a good idea to withhold dairy, especially when he has been having a fever. Teething is awful, but I don't think it should make him vomit for a week. Hope that little guy is feeling better real soon.

Might be a virus of some kind. I would call the Dr. again to get her professional opinion. Only other advice is to try to cut the dairy (milk and cheese) until he's feeling better. Best of luck and hope it is over soon!

If my child was throwing up and having runny stools for 5 day along with a low grade fever, I would be at my Dr. office figuring out what it is instead of asking on MP.

There are many things it could be and a Dr. should be able to give you a correct diagnosis and peace of mind.

Could be a number of things with a that age. I wouldn't take a chance and go to the dr. May be teething which causes all of that but also flu season and allergy season so could be an ear infection which also causes those systems. Better to be safe than sorry. Once you know what it is you'll know how best to treat it.

I am the mother of 5 and a grandmother of 13. I am S.'s mother. I have many years experience with this type of thing. I recommend the BRAT diet. An old country doctor told me that this would cure the diarrhea as well as vomiting. Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast. This diet along with plenty of clear liquids will do wonders. It really does work. If your child is tugging at the ears I recommend cleaning the ear canal with peroxide, afterwards using a q-tip dipped in alcohol to help evaporate any left over peroxide. Peroxide turns to water in the ear canal and also in wounds. Then get some virgin olive oil and warm it to almost hot and put several drops in the infected ear. These steps will insure that if there is infection the infection will be able to drain out of the ear. Another thing I learned is that adding garlic and golden-seal to the diet will help the bodies natural immune system fight off any infection that may have decided to attach itself to your child. I hope this helps. Cheryl (S.'s mom)

None of his symptoms sound like a red flag for anything serious, but I would take him back in to the doc. With our pediatric practice, they always want to see kids if a fever persists beyond 48 hours.

Good luck! It sounds like you're doing everything right in terms of comfort, mild diet, hydration, etc.

It sounds like something my hubby had about a month ago. Just not feeling well, no apetite, sporadic diarrehea (SP?), sporadic fever. He was down for about 3 weeks! He even felt so bad he went to the doctor. I've known him for over 20 years and this is the FIRST TIME he has gone to a doctor so I KNOW he felt bad!

Doc just said it was a virus and to slowly go back to eating normally. After about another week he was fine.
