My 15 month old daughter has been constipated for the last couple of weeks. She is a very picky eater and she has been sick with a sore throat but we have dealt with those issues and now she is eating great but know she is constipated all the time, she only has one poop a day usual, but she strains soo bad. She stiffin up and she doesn't want anyone to touch. She looks soo painful, and sometimes when she doesn't that she doesn't even poop. I have given her little tummys laxative and pear juice and squash, and prunes but they are not working. So I don't know if I should be concerned or just find something that will work. HELP.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took her to the doctor today and she was very constipated. She got Glyolax, she is much happier now. I am going to try and increase her fruits as much as possible and cut down on her white bread and milk for awhile. Tks for the advice.

apple juice or prune juice with a little 7up so she won't think it's nasty. Fruit will help too. A supository is out since she won't let anyone touch. If this doesn't work, call the doctor

Try clear cornsyrup with water. You don't want to try alot of the cornsyrup, maybe like a teaspoon to 6-8 oz. of water. If this does not work within a few hours try it again. My son was constipated when he was born and this was the only way I could get him to poop for the first 2-3 months. Hope it works for you.

My son has constipation very badly. He has been admitted to the hospital before. His doctor prescribed him a daily laxative and it works great for him. It seems pretty common for young kids and toddlers to have these issues and lots of moms I have talked to have had their kids on the same meds. There's no side effects and they wont become dependent. I suggest asking your doctor about it. It's called Miralax.

Digestive enzymes may be worth trying as well as aloe vera juice. At her age she can take 1 tsp of aloe juice added to anything she is drinking. If you buy digestive enzymes in powder form it is best because you can just spoon feed her 1/8 a tsp. Otherwise you can break open a capsule and poor some in her mouth. I suggest the enzymes because if her pattern is normally one movement with trouble, then she is having trouble with digestion. Being a picky eater is also a good indicator. They won't harm her and will definitly relieve her tummy and help her out. They work fast too. They should be take at each meal. Good luck and I hope she is relieved soon!

My daughter had the same problem and out doctor put her on a stool softner and it worked great. We just put it in her milk and things went much better. She would hold it for days and just not go at all. I know how you feel, trust me. I would cry along with her when she had to go. Talk to your doctor. Make sure she drinks lots of water. Good Luck.

Our grandson has always had this problem too. His doctor put him on Lactulose, but his parents don't want him depending on meds daily so we make sure to give him fresh fruit and vegetables, bread with fiber, apple or white grape juice...whole grain cereal or some type of food like this daily and he does really well with the pooping thing. lol. He goes once a day but it is not like rocks like it use to be, it is much easier on him too. Even canned green beans, carrots (eaten like finger food), salad...any of these will work for constipation. Good luck!

I went through this with my son at the age as well! My pediatrician put my son on Glycolax. It is a powder that I put in his juice or water. It is a laxative but he mainly uses a small amount of it per day to soften his poop! It has worked wonders. Ask your Pediatrician about it and Good Luck!

My 17 month old has her troubles from time to time with constipation too. Prunes and prune juice never worked. Apple juice did a great job. Also, I worked for a chiropractor and that worked wonders for my daughter's constipation as well as other things. The first time she got adjusted she pooped within seconds!!! It's not scary...chiropractors don't treat kids and babies the same as adults. Just a thought. GOOD LUCK!!!
