S.S.
For my daughter's 13th, we just had her invite only a few friends over and had pizza and made a cake and then took them ice skating. I think the whole birthday only cost us roughly $80.00.
So...my oldest is turning 14 next week. She still has not decided what to do!!! We need some ideas! I think we are a little tired on the sleepover thing. Plus, we do not really have a ton of money to play with. Please send me your great ideas!
Thanks moms!

Lots of teens in our area are doing scavenger hunt parties. They go to a mall or park and divide everyone up with a list of things to get or take pictures of. Then they go to dinner after wards. Depends on the group of kids, but if they are mostly well behaved should be something fun.
Maybe she can just take a few friends and they can get their nails done if that's something she's into. The salons around here charge around $15-$20 a person for a manicure. When I was 14 all my friends loved to go bowling. If you want to have a lot of kids, then I can't see anything being cost effective besides a party at home. I don't know who's in concert now, but maybe you can get tickets for just her and one friend.
Depending on your budget and what they are into:
Dinner out
A movie
Bowling
Manicures
Roller skating
Ice skating
Paint-Your-Own pottery studio
Or if she decide to have friends sleep over, you could still do an at-home DIY spa experience - you can find recipes on-line for homemade face masks, skin scrubs, and let them do their own mani/pedis, with maybe a bottle of polish to take home.
I read about a great twist - a surprise brunch! Grab a van (tell the other parents but not the guests) and round-up your daughter's girlfriends as a surprise - early-ish on a Saturday or Sunday for a pajama brunch.
Dinner and a movie w/ some close friends might be fun... maybe even check out a local beauty school to do their make up & hair for the evening - pretty cheap and FUN at that age...
Why not see if you can find a make-up artist to come and give the girls a makeover at your house. Also get some mani-pedi supplies for the girls who are waiting to get makeup done. Once they're all glammed, take some professional style photos (use a nice sheet for the backdrop, etc) and then get little photo books for the girls, print them out and they can scrap book!
You can find a dollar store for all the little funky things like nail polish and other mani-pedi stuff, plastic tiaras and feather scarf things.
Also, make sushi candy for snacks

Hope this helps!
What about inviting one or two close friends and going to an indoor water park? I know the one in Arlington Heights sells day passes, about $20 each, and sometimes the one in Gurnee does, too, if you call and ask.
It's Coco Key Water Resort in A.H. and Key Lime Cove in Gurnee.
Lots of great ideas here... One to add is making pizza at home. Buying something like Boboli and pizza sauce and a bunch of toppings. You can also get the minis so they can be personalized pizzas! And then getting a cake for dessert.
