14 Month Old Won't Eat Fruit

I can't get my son to eat fruit. He has been like this for two months. He hates anything sweet and loves vegies. My pediatrician didn't seem too concerned about it. Were any of your kids like this? What did you do? I am thinking of trying that deceptively delicious cookbook.

What can I do next?

I have the opposite problem. My son (13 yrs) loves all fruit but no veggies. Again the docs not concerned as long as he gets a fruit with every meal he's good. Personally I would rather have my child like veggies than fruit. So I think you have a plus with him only liking veggies. I would continue to give him opportunities to try, but don't push if he refuses. He has to see it something like 40 times before he may even try it.

My daughter didn't like ANY fruits but LOVED Veggies too. She is still that way. She will eat all the veggies and salad. She may take a bite of a bananna or apple but pretty just a bite. She doesn't like cake, ice cream etc... She likes the more healthy food since she doesn't seem to like the sweet stuff it's not an issue because she does get her veggie intake. My Doc's not concerned said the sweet taste will come in time but it is good that she likes all the typical "yuck" kid foods. She's 3 now.

I don't think this is a concern. The fact that you can get him to eat lot's of veggies is wonderful. His taste buds will change but it's not a bad thing if he doesn't have a sweet tooth, especially now. My daughter (13 years) doesn't care for cakes and is not wild about chocolate (I can't believe she's MY child!) but there isn't a vegetable that she doesn't like. She loves bananas, though. Maybe even try to give him yogurt or make him a smoothie and have him help. Good luck!

He doesn't like anything sweet?? Oh my goodness. When I saw the subject I came on here to recommend the Gerber fruit strips to maybe trick him into eating fruit.... but those are sweet. The fact that he likes veggies is great though! If that were my son I would probably do like you and sneak fruit in somewhere for nutrition... but I wouldn't push the issue... I would be grateful that my kid didn't have a sweet tooth. Good luck hon! :)

My daughter was the same way, actually she still is! I was being a nervous nelly over it and saw a dietician to discuss her diet. With all this news out now days I am constantly wondering if I should do this or that.... things have changed in 19 years! lol Anyhow, she said as long as she is getting in her veggies I do not need to worry about fruits. The nutrition chart is for fruits and veggies- either or, or both! I thought she was full of it so I asked her pediatrician as well.... he said the same thing!

I now have a 23 month old who eats salads, brocolli, cauliflower, beans, peas, brussel sprouts, yams etc....she will not eat corn though :)

I do also give her 1.5 servings of V8 Fruit Fusion drink though to get in all of her fruits and veggies servings per day- she only eats 2 meals a day. I do this over the whole day diluted with water!

The only other way I can get her to eat any fruit besides a banana is in her yogurt or no sugar added applesauce! I have also used applesauce in pancake mix rather than water to get an extra serving in! She loves that!

If you are patient enough to cook from the cookbook that is wonderful! I am not a good cook so I have decided to not worry since she is still getting her servings in and is healthy!

Good luck to you and many blessings!

I agree, I would not be concerned. My daughter loves protein/veggies/fruits, but rarely eats carbs, sometimes a corn chex as a snack. Try mixing applesauce with some frozen spinach, my daughter loves that, it is not too sweet, no need to get the sweetened kind, it will be too much for his little taste buds if you do. Avocado is actually a fruit and a great source of fat for their developing brains.
