One of my dd's front tooth is ORANGE..I saw it tonight when she was laughing and have been internally flipping out. I have been using "Baby's 1rst toothbrush" from One Step Ahead and those over the finger gizmos at leats twice a day with bb toothpast. Is there a better toothbrush? Should I be using the miniture kind of an adult's toothbrush? Any kind you recommend?
How about a good Pediatric dentist in or around Pittsburgh? How old was your baby when you first took him/her to the dentist?
Thanks...I am so upset about this...I feel like a terrible Mother!

What can I do next?

I recommend Dr. Deborah Brandes. She is located in West Mifflin near CCAC South. She is wonderful with the kids. My daughter Angela just loves the dentist. I started her when she was 2 thats what my ped recomended. But if you definately have a concern i would considering going in.

Address is:
500 Lewis Run Road
Suite 128
West Mifflin, Pa 15122

Hi S.! Relax...a great peds dental group in and around Pittsburgh is Dentistry for kids. Check out their web site at www.dentistry-for-kids.com We found them through a doctor right after we moved here from Ohio nine years ago. All three of my girls have been going to the dentist since they were 2 yrs old and they love all the staff at Dentistry for Kids! I wish they would treat adults!! Your not a "terrible Mother" so quit beating yourself up!! Best wishes!

Hi S.,
I think my son was 3 when he had his first visit and cleaning. I take him to my dentist, not a pediatric dentist. Just make sure you use a soft bristle tooth brush. I don't think the specific brand is important. Sounds like you are doing a good job with the brushing. If it looks alarming, call your pediatrician right sway and ask for their recommendation, OK?

I took my kids this summer for their first dental appt. They were 4 yo almost 3 ayo. I took them to Pediatric Dentistry on McLaughlin Run Road (not sure if it is in Upper St. Clair or Bridgeville). They have other locations. The staff was wonderful and the doctor listened to me about my concerns. They were pricey, though, in my opinion. Each child was about $140 for an iniital visit. They told me future visits will be about $20 less. Do you have dental insurance? Your insurer could tell you who they cover in the area. I would think any child/infant toothbrush is fine at that age as long as it is soft and small.

Our dentist said between 2 1/2 and 3 years is when he wants to see them for the first time. Since you have this concern you could call your pediatrician's office and ask their advice (it might be something completley innocent).

I would use a baby toothbrush with soft bristles and the toothpaste with NO fluoride (Baby Orajel makes one).

As for pediatric dentists, I recommend Dr. Michael LeDonne. He is in Pleasant Hills on East Bruceton close to Kmart.

Suzy,
I am a dental hygienist, I would have a dentist look at her tooth. It does not sound like anything is really wrong. Any type of small toothbrush is fine to use. Only a pea size amount of toothpaste is needed the kids like to eat it. They will not get sick from it unless they eat the whole tube but just a pea size amount. Both of the dentists above mentioned I know are good. A pediatic dentist is not always necessary. Your dentist may be just fine to use for your daughter. For the most part it is preference. At her age right now I would probably try a pediatric dentist.
