I gave my 14 month old a cup of milk last night and put the unfinished cup on the floor and forgot about it. This morning, he woke up and drank it!! It's been out in room temperature for at least 4 hours... what should I do? Is he going to be ok? should I do anything??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He only had a couple of sips before my husband saw and took it away. We told the daycare ladies to keep an eye out but I feel MUCH better. Thanks Mamas. You guys are all so awesome :)

He'll probably get an upset stomach.......at the most.........keep an eye on him...........give him water to drink.......lots of cold water.......don't give him anything greasy........

He should be fine.......if not, he'll just vomit it up.............must not have tasted to bad or he wouldn't have drank it......

He'll be fine......hang in there......and take care.

I think he will be fine. I have a 6 and 2 year old. This will not be the worst thing he ever puts in his mouth. Once we lost a sippy cup in teh house. I don't know how long it was in the toy chest, but the milk was a solid. My one daughter took it out and played with it and when I told her eeewww old milk, she licked it. My other daughter, on her first subway ride, licked the window of the subway... so she could make a picture with her finger. Milk is pasturized and unless your house is 90 degrees it is still pretty cool. It may have been sour, but I doubt it is bad. Maybe at worse, a sour stomach. If he has throws up, you can call the pediatircian, but theere isn't much they would do anyway.

LOL He will be OK. My son found a sippy of milk that 'someone' had put into a drawer of our coffee table for God knows how long.....I saw him cruising by with a sippy that I know I had not seen for days! He had had some of it. It was totally disgusting. I don't know how much he actually drank but it was curdled and gross.

Don't panic!! It's happened to me a time or two.

I have never had any issues... but the amount has never been more than 4oz.

I think the worst side effect was diarrhea

It won't hurt. His stomach should handle a little extra bacteria - they are not a dangerous type. Obviously it was not sour (excessive bacteria) or he would not have drank it! Toddlers are very unpredicatable and that is the fun of it!! ;-)

I'm pretty sure the worse that would happen would be some diarrhea. I have discovered my kids eating some pretty nasty stuff they had hid in the closet for later... and they are still alive and strong!

this just happed to me with my 14 month old. His milk from the night before was on the table next to his crib. In the morning when I was getting ready for work he was really quiet...sure enough found the bottle and was drinking it. This was about a month ago and he is totally fine, so don't worry about it!

I think he'll be just fine.
It's my guess if it was curdled or tasted sour, your son wouldn't have drank the whole thing.
He may get a "sour" stomach, but it's not the same as him drinking poison or anything. Lots of kids drink bottles that have been left out at room temperature for a while.

I think your son will be fine.

Keep an eye out and it never hurts to put a call into the Pediatrics Nurse so you are aware of what to look for. I only say this b/c I do not know your childs medical history and there may be something to be aware of. Otherwise I agree with water for the day LOTS of water and fruits, help "rush" it out of his little system in a gentle way.

Don't worry about it. My oldest (by my error) chugged a whole cup of sour milk. I didn't know it had soured, and gave it to her. She was so thirsty she drank it and then 2 minutes later threw up everywhere. Sour milk is one of those things if his tummy didn't like it, his body will get rid of it right away.
