11.5 Week Pregnant, Trouble Urinating (Sorry for TMI!)

Something really weird is going on, for the last week it seems like my first urine of the morning after I get up feels like it wont come out! I have to lean forward and actually push to get it to come out and I have to push the entire time. It almost feels like if you've ever had a catheter for surgery when they take it out and you feel like you need to pee but nothing comes out! The weird thing is that it only happens first thing in the morning and then it never happpens all day and all night after that. I do drink a lot of water at night so I usually end up going to the bathroom around 2am and there's no problem then either. I read something a while back that said if you had a retroverted (tipped) uterus that early in pregnancy the uterus is sitting on top of the bladder more than with other women. Has anyone ever had this problem???? I've had a UTI before and this doesnt feel the same, there's no burning, just this weird once a day occurance. Any thoughts? Again sorry for TMI!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I called my OB and they are going to put me on an antibiotic while they wait for the results of the urine sample. I hope everything is ok!

When I was pregnant in 1994, I was about 5 months along and couldn't go but I had to SO bad. After running water, shower, etc, hubby took me to ER.

They drained over a gallon from me! I still have the hospital record!! WHoo Hoo.

Anyway, daughter was positioned in a way that blocked me from going. I wore a catheter for 2 weeks until she moved. The Dr. said if I had not come in, it would have endangered both our lives.

My uterus and everything was fine, daughter was just positioned in an odd way.

Good luck.

This happened to me two or three times early in my twin pregnancy. I do have a tipped uterus, so I just figured the pipes were being pinched. I never had a UTI.

My opinion is to just keep an eye on it and record any strange symptoms you might have. You can discuss with you doctor if there are any changes. I had kidney stones in both my pregnancies, but had a severe one in my first. This happened at 7 months but I had no idea what was going on. In retrospect, I was able to go back through my pregnancy notes and realized I had symptoms very early on that were all tied to the stone. At one point I had blood in my urine but absolutely no pain, no UTI symptoms etc... I was treated for a UTI but a couple of weeks later had a stone attack as it started to move through my urether toward my bladder. I haven't had any stones while not pregnant but I do seem to have some after effects. One of which is my morning urine seems to be blocked like yours. It almost is like there is a little pop when urine starts to come out. Good luck and have a great pregnancy!

I had it with my second pregnancy. Talked to the doc and he confirmed my tilted uterus was the problem...after a few tests. I would check with the doc to be safe. For me it was the 2a.m. visit that was tough :)

I have a retroverted uterus too but don't recall this feeling. Also, it does seem you are very early on for any kind of major physical pressure thing to be going on. If you can in fact urinate then it's probably not a problem but I would mention this to your doc since you don't want to mess with your kidneys. Good luck!

I have a tilted uterus and have never had that problem and I'm on my 4th pregnancy. I would call your doctor and discuss it with him to be safe.

Your fetus is still very small, although you have some swelling and fluid retention. I'd check with the Dr, since you are really too early for pressure from the baby to be causing this sensation (which is common later in pregnancy). This is something that may be structural- a tipped uterus or something else. Or it could be a mild infection somewhere. In any case, don't take a chance, call your Dr.

Oh my gosh! I am 15 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing the same thing--I really have to push to get it out especially in the morning. I just assumed it was the baby sitting on something, but looking at your responses I'll ask the midwife at my next appointment. You're not on Zofran are you? I had thought it might be a side effect from that because my issue started about when I started it.
