11 Weeks Pregnant and Spotting!!!

I'm pregnant with my second child and for the last few weeks, I have been spotting on and off. The first time it happened, I was a mess. I couldn't stop crying and was really upset. I had an ultrasound the next day and the doctor checked and said that everything was okay. I hadn't had any spotting for the next few weeks but all of a sudden this weekend I started spotting again. Does anyone have any advise or suggestions? I'm trying not to worry because everyone keeps telling me that it's normal but I never spotted at all with my daughter. I'm sure my overactive hormones aren't helping but I'm a little nervous.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First off, I want to say thank you to all of the Moms who responded and gave their advice, suggestions and prayers. Unfortunately, I ended up miscarrying on Wednesday evening. I followed everyone's advice and called the doctor but due to tons of screw-ups with my insurance company, I couldn't get into the office to get an ultrasound. I spent all day Monday and Tuesday on the phone with the hospital and insurance company and after all of that, I ended up having to go to the ER on Tuesday afternoon because the bleeding and everything had gotten significantly worse. After being discharged with little explanation or reassurance Tuesday evening, I went home to "wait it out" per the doctor. The miscarriage happened on Wednesday and I had the D&C yesterday. Thanks again to everyone for their assistance.

I spotted for the 1st 4 months with my first child. It was awful so i know what you are going through. I just took some time off of work and stayed off my feet. The doctor told me it may have been when the placenta connected and that there could be a scab that kept opening when i overworked my body. So after about 4 days of bed rest it must have healed because it was the only thing that stopped the spotting for good.

M.,
I hope everything turns out okay. I know this can be so stressful!!! My firt pregnancy ended in a miscarriage after 11 weeks and I only had spotting, but my next two pregnancies both also had spotting and resulted in two beautiful, full term babies. I know you are concerned, but rely on the Ultrasound telling you that everything was okay.

Good luck,
K.

I spotted with my second child also and everything turned out fine. Just everytime you spot make sure you go to the doctor to make sure everything is O.K. I spotted probably through my 6-7 month. I honestly can not remember what it was but it turned out to be nothing and it is normal to spot. Don't stress out that will only make matters worse. Hang in there and good luck

I too spotted when I was pregnant with my second child. I did tell my doctor but everything turned out to be fine. I don't know why it happened, but it stopped after a couple weeks. That was the only problem I had during the whole pregnancy.

M.,

I miscarried twice before our son was born. The second I m/c at 11-12 weeks. So, when I was pregnant with Jacob and started spotting at 11 weeks I had a fricken heart-attack. All turned out ok, though and Jacob is 20 months old. I'm currently 15 weeks pregnant with our second child and at 11 weeks...guess what? Spotting. I went to the Dr. and had an u/s and all was okay. Some women just spot. And, I would tell you what my doctor told me....1) Unless there is cramping and heavy spotting I wouldn't sound off the alarms. I'd still call and talk to the doctor, but don't freak out. 2) Stressing about it won't help and really isn't good for the baby. So, do your best to try and just relax and take it easy.

I wish the best for you and your pregnancy!

T.

Out of six pregnancies, I spotted with two. Just follow your doctor's advice as carefully as you can and don't worry, that is more harmful than the actual spotting. Get plenty of rest, listen to spiritual music, drink plenty of water, especially if you get those nagging little headaches. My OB Gyn said lack of water causes them and when I took her advice, I could control them. If you believe in prayer, pray Psalms 91 over your tummy every day. I was told by a Prophet to do this, and I can't describe how much this helps. It is never too late! God's blessing on your baby and you! L.

Hi M.,
First of all congrats on the baby! Secondly, I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child and I went through the exact same thing! I spotted right around 11 weeks and I freaked out and went to the doctor and got an u/s and everthing was fine. Then a few weeks later I had the same thing. I never spotted with my first pregnancy either. So far everything is fine and I have not spotted anymore since then. They say it is more common to spot with your second. Hope this puts you at ease a little!

This is nothing to mess with. Any doubt, esp it recurring, CALL your doctor... That is what they are there for. Sure, we all have spotted, but this is YOUR body and your baby, and we can't compare. Best to hear it from the right person -- your OB-gyn.

Hi M.! I spotted with my son, who is almost 4 now. I did not spot at all with my girls. And, I started spotting with Erik and then went in, was checked everything was ok. Then, I started again and quite heavily too. There was alot of blood and my midwife said she hoped it was not a miscarriage but she was preparing me. We thought it would be. I went in to check my hormone levels and they were rising and really high and I was fine. I spotted on and off till I was about 5 mths pregnant with him, but never again as much as that one time when there was alot, so be assured. Let me know ok?

I was just at the Dr today, I just found out I am pregnant. I was told like you it is normal now if you wipe and it covers all your toliet paper then that is not normal. I am sure it is very scary. The NP said it is cause the egg attaching or something else its a shame I was just there and now don't remember. But don't worry also if you are having cramping with it then maybe be alarmed otherwise it is just whatevers going on in there. Good luck!!

Ha there. First off try not to worry. Stress and worry will drive you crazy. I spotted at 10-11 weeks too with bad pains too. Scared I was. but it stopped after about 2 weeks. Now I'm 17 weeks and things seem to be okay. On webmd I read that it's more common to spot with your second child that with your first. And this is my second child like you. That's weird I don't know why but webmd had it there. Definately talk to your doctor. Your the patient and none of your concerns are not important. The nurse also told me if i was going to miscarry there was nothing a doctor could do about it. That broke my heart it's not encouraging at all. She also told me too lay down as much as I could. I pray for you and your growing little one inside. Hope this passes quickly. See if you can get another ultrasound? Much love to you.

Hi M.,
Well to make u feel at ease somewhat. I had some spotting in the first trimester of my pregnancy w/my twins. Can't really recall what it was exactly at this moment. But everything was fine. Twins were born at 37 weeks at each 5lbs 8ozs. Now my Sister is pregnant for the second time and she is about 4-5 weeks and she has had almost a week of bleeding and cramping. They have been checking her HCG levels and they are not going down, they are going up, so that is a good sign. She'll know more this week.

So my suggestion is to see your Doctor and I'm sure he/she will figure out what it is. My Sister's Doctor thinks that she could be having her period, which happens to people on rare occassions.

Hope this helps...:) somewhat?:)
Best Wishes,
M.

Hi M.,

Congratulations!

I am 20 weeks pregnant now with my 2nd child. I also was spotting around 11 weeks (with my current pregnancy). I talked to a nurse and she said it is probably a "phantom" period. If I wasn't pregnant and on my usual menstration schedule, I would of had my period at that time.

Of course I also checked with my doctor and he said he agreed with the nurse. I met with the doctor a couple days later for a scheduled appointment and I told him everything that was going on. I was comfortable with what the nurse told me.

The nurse also told me to take it easy. (My 6 year old still wants to be picked up at times.) No heavy lifting and rest when possible. The spotting never came back and I am back to my normal every day routine.

I know it's hard not to get upset, just relax. As long as you are talking with your doctor. With my 3rd daughter I had heavy bleeding for up to 3 weeks. She is now 2 1/2.

I had considerable spotting while pregnant with my now 3 month old son. Around 10 weeks I had some major bleeding - I thought I had lost him. But the morning sickness didn't really subside. The ultrasound (a couple days later) showed a sub-chorionic bleed on the placenta. Apparently it is pretty common, although it was my 7th pregnancy, I had never experienced that. (I also bled heavily at 32 weeks, which was due to complete placenta previa.)

You might want to call your doctor and see what the ultrasound diagnosis for the spotting was. I am sure that once you have a "reason" for the spotting you will feel better, and in just short of 30 weeks you'll have a beautiful little bundle in your arms.

Definitely call your doctor. A lot of times they will do an u/s to check that everything is okay. I had spotting with all my kids, and they came out just fine. I was nervous every time though, because I had two miscarriages before my first, and the spotting was the same. With my third, the "spotting" was so heavy, there was clotting and at one point turned the toilet water bright red. I was sure I was miscarrying, but today I have a 2.5 month old sleeping in the bassinet upstairs :).

Good luck!

I spotted from week 4 until about 16 weeks of my pregnancy. I called the doctor every time I started spotting. It is the best course of action, even if you feel silly after it is confirmed that it isn't harmful to the baby.

It is important the doctor knows every time you start spotting and checks on the baby. It could just be an excess of your own blood, but it could be fluids leaking and be the baby's blood.

I had a long while to be on bed rest. It seemed like every time I got off of bed rest I would start spotting again.

It is just the safest to call the OB/GYN and tell him what is going on.

Congrats! I hope it is nothing and that you and the baby are fine.
