My 11 month old daughter has never been a big eater, she won't self feed but would eat babyfood. Oddly though, for the last two weeks she won't eat any solid food. She is still drink plenty of milk, but nothing else. Has anyone else encountered this? When will she decide to self feed?

What can I do next?

Our daughter would stop eating when she had a stomach bug, early stages before symptoms appear. In fact, she still does this. When she asks for soup, we know she is fighting a bug. Might be a smart baby.

Do you feed her the baby food? If so, maybe she just wants to be fed.

As already mentioned teething can impact appetite. That never really happened for my daughter. She loved to chew on her gums as teeth were coming in. She's even put her daddy's finger in her mouth and get him to rub them for her.

She might be getting teeth in. Look in her mouth. Are her gums swolen? This may be why she only wants to eat baby food - she doesn't have to chew on sore gums.

I wouldn't worry as long as she is getting enough liquid and doing the whole pee/poop thing on a regular basis.

Frustrating when this happens. Have you tasted the babyfood you are feeding her. I found that real cereal which you cook for babies (baby oatmeat, etc) worked and you can stir in some babyfood apricots. I find that it takes some serious sitting time spoonfeeding them to get them to eat a little bit. It is a social activity after all and fun for them to play games with you by not eating. I also changed to making my own food when I tried some of the babyfood brands. Putting your own food into the blender with a little chicken broth tastes alot better than something out of those jars but time is essential with this.

Yep - as long as she seems healthy in every other way - poo, pee, etc. I wouldn't worry. Just feed her whatever she will take and don't force it. Babies are smart and know what they need!

Slow down on the liquids and she will eat when she gets really hungry. It works every time.

Blessings and good luck -

my son did the same thing when he was sick or teething. Try making her some smoothies with fresh fruit or veges. One that always worked for my son was any smoothie with banana. Also try pured foods. . .carrots, peas, etc. Even 1 spoonful here and there is better than none.
