Familyfun.com has excellent ideas. What is the theme for the party? I did a scavenger hunt at one of the birthday parties I threw. I simply made a list of items that could be found in the home and yard. I photocopied it so each kid or each team has a copy. I provided bags for the children to collect the items in, the list of items and a pen. I bought ribbons from the local party store and as they finished the hunt, the children got ribbons.

I have also thrown a tye dye party. I made a cake in the shape of a tshirt and swirled the colors on the vanilla frosting so the cake appeared to be tye dye. In stead of goody bags, we made tye dye tshirts. Very easy to do. You can get the kits as any craft store and even Walmart.

I also threw a carnival party which was a huge success. I got family members to man the booths and we created carnival games out of refridgerator boxes and recycled items around the house. We got stickers, candy and small trinkets as prizes at the booths. We even made a ticket booth so as the kids came in, the got their tickets. We set up a sno kone machine and a hugh clown that the kids tooktheir picture with.

Have fun with it!!

What about a digital camera scavenger hunt? You can type up a list of landmarks or items found around your town and take the kids out to take photos of themselves with the objects. Of course you'd have to have drivers, but if it's a smallish party, you might be able to divide them up into 2 teams. Make sure each car/team has a digital camera, and send them on their way. Include a stop sign, fire hydrant, playground/slide/swing, garden, maybe a statue or famous landmark in your town, the golden arches, etc... Get creative. Then, when the kids get home and are having cake, download the photos (or have someone else do this!) and print or make a book. This is a good way to do a scavenger hunt, especially if you don't know your neighbors that well, and kids love taking pictures and using a digital camera!

For dessert, rather than a typical cake, maybe serve a cupcake with a treat baked inside or do a pudding/dirt type dessert and bury and prize/treasure in each cup. Have fun!

Is this for a girl? ds? For a scavenger hunt, leave notes that give hints to the next location until they get to the end. Other ideas, jump rope contest, hula hoop contest (longest, most jumps), making garden stones out of cement, making individual piazzas ( a pizza line), relay races, learning/teaching how to finger knit, games, tea party, dance-a-thon, google craft ideas, bake cookies or cake with them.... there is so much you can do. Good luck!
