My 10 month old baby boy does not want to eat. I used to feed him just twice a day, 3-4 tbsp of oatmeal/barley cereal with veggies/fruits.. I've tried all kinds of veggies and fruits and he seemed to love his breakfast and dinner esp. carrots and sweet potatoes.. All of a sudden he started disliking his food about a month ago.. He was interested in finger foods though, so I let him eat a variety of finger foods.. His interest in finger food lasted for a week. Now he hates any kind of solid food.. I've tried to give him some rice and lentils and other kinds of food, he just hates anything in his mouth. He spits out with his mouth and makes a sound with his tongue and smiles at me.. I;ve also let him feed himself but he doesn't eat anything and doesn't seem to be interested in eating..He also dislikes his formula, his formula intake has reduced from 24 oz a day to 15-18 oz a day. He doesn't seem to be interested in any kind of food intake. Whenever I'm feeding him, he needs to be having a toy in his hand and I have to trick him to eat/drink. Please let me know if this is normal. Thanks in advance.

he might be sick with a stomach bug or his little throat might be hurting him. its not normal at all when they stop eating its a sign that something is wrong. they might have a off couple of days but not eating much for about a month is his little way of saying something is off. hope he is feeling great and is just messing with you but i would definatly take him in. good luck.

No juice, it superesses his appetite. Try cherrios with bananas, cherrios with avocado etc. He might still be getting use to the new textures. It usually takes about 20 times to introduce the baby to something new. If you feel he is not getting the proper nutrition, schedule appt with the pediatrician.

This is an odd one...

What are his stools like? What about urine output? Meaning, how many wet diapers a day? Or do they seem drier than usual?

Is he teething? Perhaps provide one of those cold refrigerated teething toys before eating. It would help numb things up a bit.

The way you describe it, sounds like a tactile response in his mouth, that something is irritating his gums, tongue, cheeks.

And what about feeding him small bites off of your own plate? Is he interested in your food?

If the decline in food and overall calories continues on like this, you should contact your pediatrician's office and discuss with a nurse.

Eh, kids can be fickle. Our 11 month old can eat like a horse at one meal, then like a bird the next. We try not to let liquid get in the way of his appetite. If he's turning his nose at something, sometimes we sandwich it between spoonfulls of his favorites. He opens wide for yogurt. So we give him 3 spoons of yogurt, a spoon of brussel sprouts, and then 3 spoons of yogurt. Its trickery, but it gets the food in.

If you are concerned about his overall intake, if he seems listless, or crankier than usual, speak with the PED.

Good luck.

Is he able to feed himself? A lot of times babies will go on a hunger strike because they would rather feed themselves than be fed. It's a way to assert their independence. As long as he is getting plenty of formula don't have to worry too much about nutrition. My advice would be to see how he does feeding himself and not to push the issue too much. Does he hold his own bottle? That may help with the formula as well. You may want to get a bottle or sippy cup with handles and let him hold it, while you are holding him. You can also ask your pediatrician or the nurse in the ped office and see what they think. I would also stay away from juice as it doesn't offer a lot of nutritional value and has more sugar than baby needs. Hang in there, these stages come and go there is always something new and they are constantly changing!
