hey ladies! y'all are all so creative and ready with a great idea or advice, so i thought i'd throw this one on you. my family is driving 6 hours for my sweet girls birthday parties. we decided to have it on the same day so they don't have to make 2 trips. we are having my 1 yr old's party at 9:30 and my 4 yr old's party is at 11:30 - we will be having lunch and cake with cupcakes. so my question is, i will have a little cake for my 1 yr old to rip into (what's a 1 yr old party without that?) but we will be having cake and such later that day for my older daughter, so what should i serve the adults? it will just be family and very close friends. maybe something breakfasty and dessertish. come on ladies throw those wonderful ideas on me - the party is THIS SATURDAY!!

What can I do next?

I'd have an egg/potato/cheese/sausage casserole, fruit salad and some sweet breads, with orange juice and coffee. You can mix the casserole the day before and bake it the morning of. You can bake the sweet breakfast type breads the morning of or the day before. Then, you can add the cake at the end of the party! Have a wonderful day.

the ideas presented already are great ones- if you want a breakfast type item- quiche or a breakfast casserole are great make ahead, fairly light (leave room for lunch) items- and if you want to serve something "sweet" to celebrate with (represent cake)- danishes are a great idea (previouly mentioned)- or make homemade strawberry shortcake- make the shortcake "biscuits" with bisquick (you can make them ahead) and serve them with sliced strawberries and cool whip- pretty, delicious and pretty light.

Fresh cinnamon rolls from a local bakery could be a great addition. Various muffins and pastries?

I would just do coffee, juice and something easy--mini muffins, doughnuts, bagels, cinnamon rolls or a sweet bread (like banana). One of my favorites that I have served is "breakfast cheesecake"--it's a quick and easy recipe with crescent rolls and cream cheese, etc. and it is make yourself sick out of this world yummy! I have another one that is called cream cheese clouds that you roll cubes of cream cheese in butter, sugar and cinnamon and wrap in a piece of biscuit that are also good for this type of thing. Have fun and good luck! :)

I would service breakfast you can go simple with a breakfast pizza that you can get ready for the oven the night before. Serve with a pot of coffee and a pot of tea. Add a cool drink like orange for the ones who do not want a hot drink. You could something more fancy like breakfast quiche, bacon, a muffin of some kind, orange mix with champagne.
Her are the recipes Breakfast Quiche
2 unbaked 9 inch pie crusts 1C milk
1 pound pork sausage 1t salt
1 1/2 C shredded mild cheddar cheese
pepper to taste 5 eggs beaten
minced parsley
Bake pie crusts for 3 minutes in a 450 degree oven . set aside. Cook sausage, stirring until crumble and brown. Drain. Put half in the bottom of each pie crusts. Sprinkle half of cheese over the sausage in each pie crusts. Combine eggs, milk, peper and salt .divided mixture evenly betwwen each pie crusts, Sprinkle parsley on top. Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 45 minutes. Makes 8 to 12 serves.

There are some quiches that would be good to serve with a large bowl of fresh mixed fruit, or the breakfast casseroles that you can prepare the night before, put in the fridge and pop in the oven in the morning...that would be less work for you before the party. You can google to find several receipes for breakfast quiche and breakfast casseroles. Have a happy party!

Hi-we recently attended a child's birthday party in the morning and they served kolaches (I'm not sure where you live, so I don't know if you're familiar...they are a filled bread roll. They can be sweet or savory--the ones at this birthday party were sausage and cheese. Yummy!), fruit, cucumber sandwiches, and iced coffee for the adults. It was just enough and really good. Hope this helps!

I would say do some kind of pastries like danish or crouissants(sp?). And maybe even some quiche. If you go to Sam's in the freezer section, they sell some wonderful quiches that you just pop in the oven and they are appetizer size and are perfect for any time of day since they have eggs in them. You could also do just some sliced fresh fruit...strawberries, blueberries, melon. You don't need a lot at that time of day since you'll be having cake too. Hope this helps a little. Good luck and have fun!!

I'd have a breakfast casserole and some sort of bread(s) with flavored butter (honey etc...) and maybe some jam/Jelly if you have someone who has homemade I'd get that. Then I"d have a Fruit bowl or Fruit Salad in case someone doesn't want cake (some people might want to save their "cake calories" for your older girls' cake as she might be more prone to notice if aunt/granny etc... didn't eat any :-).
You can make the casserole (mix it up and even cook it without cheese) the day before and either cook or re-heat the next morning. Also if you go to your fav. bakery and get crossants (sp?), and a selection of breads you just put it on a plate and set out the other stuff (butter, flavored butter, jam, jelly, marmalade whaterver you have/think your family will like). A fruit bowl is super easy too and you can just wash the stuff a day (or 2) ahead and put it in the bowl (Might want to put it in a bag in the fridge to keep family out of it so there is some left for the party).
Hope this helps.
Good Luck! C.
