1 Year Old Eating Solid Foods

My daughter, who is about to turn 1 years old, refuses to eat baby food now that I have given her cooked veggies and cut up fruit. Thankfully, she is not too picky. She'll just pushed the spoon away and gets mad. I do give her shredded chicken, rice and beans, cheese and whatever else I can find in my refrigerator. (I try to give her protein for each meal) She seems to be digesting everything properly, no issues there. She still gets 3 bottles of formula a day, and I am transitioning her to whole milk. At 1 years old, should I give her vitamins too? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

She doesn't need vitamins unless a doctor specifically recommends them to you...and most won't. They get all they need from a well balanced diet, so unless she has some dietary issue she'll be fine. As a matter of fact, with formula, cereals, and so many other foods being "fortified" these days, you can actually overdo it by adding a vitamin.

My son just turned 1 and we almost never spoon feed him. It is just easier for him to feed himself while we eat. My doc really only recommended vitamins while I was breastfeeding and before he was getting cows milk (breastmilk doesn't have as much vitamin d). I don't give vitamins to either of my kids but they eat just about everything. My friends that have picky eaters still give their 3 year old kids vitamins. I don't think there is much harm in it though. And if you need ideas for recipes check out wholesomebabyfood.com and wholesometoddlerfood.com

If she's started eating solids and she has no problem with it than why are you concerned about her having vitamins? She sounds like a good eater. I never liked vitamins, my son is very skinny, but as long as he eats his fruit and a few veggies a day, plus proteins I'm not worried. I also think omlettes are great source of easy food to eat and contain protein too. I got off baby food a lot sooner than a year old. For some reason my daughter was a quicker learner than my son. She just grabbed things off our plates and ate, ate, ate.
Wish you the best..

I started regular food at 10/11months she wanted what we we're eatting.
I still chew food for my daughter & let her self feed
fruits/veggies- she self feeds
she's 16months
I have a friend, our daughter are the same age. My friend just puts food on her daughters plate & lets her self feed. You just have to see what works best for you & I still breastfeed.

Does she feed herself, as well? Most babies have a strong desire and need to self feed, at this age. If she is getting a varied diet with fruits, veggies, and proteins...there is really no need for vitamins. She should be getting all she needs from food, because it sounds like she is eating a well-balanced diet. I got his info straight from my pediatrician.

She sounds like she eats well so she should be fine with what she's eating but ask the doctor about vitamins if you are concerned. Try giving her yogurt, avocado, hummus.... things like that that have good vitamins in them too.

as long as you keep the food well balanced and make sure your offering lots of fruit and veggies and offering protien you wont need vitamins. even if your child doesnt eat everything offering it through out the day and knowing how much your child eats in a setting and offering whats needing in snack time you will be fine. if you feel like they are not getting enough you can mix carnation (the breakfast mic in the cereal or coffee isle) with there milk will give the extra needed vitamins and good stuff

Yes, doctors recommend all people, including toddlers, mult-vits. It's impossible to get all the nutrients one needs from food alone even when eating a primarily balanced diet.
