My son is turning 1 on Sept 25th and we are planning to have his party on Sept 23rd. At first we were just going to have it at our house, then we realized that everyone that is coming has kids over 2 and we have nothing for them to do at our house. We don't have room to rent a blow up jump thingy, and there is no playground in our neighnorhood. I tried our local park, however ALL of their pavillions are rented for the day. Can anyone help me please?? My budget is $100 as far as a venue is concerned. Thanks in advance gals!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I REALLY appreciate everyone's response. I have decided to take the advice and have it at home with some balloons, a cake, chips and dip, and a few family and friends. After that, I have invited some of the moms to follow me over to the park right behind our house to let the kids play out their "cake energy". Again, thanks to all of you for your honest advice!

Honey, you are making this to hard on yourself. He is only turning one. Have the party at your house, get some balloons, buy some party favors and rent a movie specifcally for 2 year olds. Then you can converse with adults. The baby won't remember this!

Hi There!

I think you have a coupple of choices. One would be to limit the people that is coming to 6 or 7 of kids his age and have a 1 to 2 hours max party for them, just for one year olds, That's really all they can take at that age without getting fussy or crancky.

OR (I don't know where you live but this is easy), if you really can't or wouldn't like to keep people out of the celebration there are plenty of parks (playgrounds),with pavillions that are just there for people to use without reserving them, kind of first come, first serve basis. That way it doesn't cost you anything or a very small fee in some cases),and there is PLENTY of room for everybody to run arround. Now somebody has to be there early enough to reserve a spot (husband are great for that job!)

For my daughter's 1st b-day party we had a cookout at the house, which at that age it's more of a cookout for the adulta as we all know.
My next door neighbor (who was a former teacher) helped by coming over before the party and set up "stations" in our garage for the little ones. She had an art area: Playdoh, large piece of paper for all the kids to paint on, etc. If I remember right she also had an area set aside for bubbles and toy music instruments. Some of the "older" kids even watched movies during the party....
Goodie bags are also great to keep them occupied for awhile, don't always have to wait till they leave to hand out....go to the Dollar Store to rack up cheap toys ;)
Good luck and have fun!
