Buying Vs. Borrowing Children's Books

I posted a question yesterday regarding children's books, which made me wonder what others do -- borrow or buy books for their children. (Thank you all for your recommendations, btw! Can't wait to read some of those books to my daughter.) If you generally borrow, but sometimes buy, which books do you choose to buy rather than borrow? I have personally taken my kids to the library only a handful of times. I generally take them to the bookstore for story time and browse books. We occasionally buy books for the kids from the store,...

Suggestions for Infant/toddler Music

I would like to buy some music for my 5 month old to listen to for play time. I would like it to be interactive songs that I can use puppets and finger plays with. I've got Raffi's Animal Songs and Sesame Street Platinum. Any suggestions for other good ones?

Doll House- for Boys

Mamas & Papas- Can you recommend a doll house or its equivalent for a boy? Our son is 2.5 y.o. His early intervention teacher recommended we get one to foster pretend play. I am looking for something which is age appropriate and sturdy, and not terribly "pink" as toys which are geared for girls nowadays tend to be. Thanks, F. B.

3 1/2 Yr Old Who Hits Our Dog

Help! We recently adopted a beautiful 2 year old lab retriever who has adjusted great to our home. He has a great temperament and is pretty obedient. The problem that has me totally at my wits end is that my 3 1/2 yr old son randomly hits him for no reason or will pull his tail. I am just appalled and mortified and it breaks my heart that he would do that to our innocent, sweet dog. Thus far, the dog has been VERY tolerant of him. I have tried various methods of discipline with my son, such as reasoning and explaining, spanking...

Panicing About Christmas Time Already.

I'm trying to think of presents for my 3 year old son. I'm glad he's not at an age of Wei's or Guitar Hero's just yet. My husband has been unemployed for about 6 months now and money is really tight. What kind of make at home presents do people do at low cost or no cost? I don't know how to sew. I am checkng on freecycle for legos, lincoln blocks, and puppets. Any other ideas? And how does one get on toys for tots?

Feeling like an Inadequate SAHM.

Lately, I have been having some hard days where I feel like I am not being the mom that I should be. I don't feel like I am interacting enough with the children. I stay home with the kids during the week and I only work on weekends. But some days, I feel like they would learn more if they were in daycare. My husband does not really support me staying home, but tolerates it (it was an agreement when we got married that I would not work when we had kids). My kids are 3 and 1 1/2 and some days it is all I can do to stay sane. I feel...
