Behavior in Church

Hi Everybody, My husband was in a golf tournament this am and I took my 3 yr old to church by myself. I had snacks, juice, and pencil / paper activity...it occupied him for about 25 mins, and then his behavior when nuts. He would not use volume control with his voice, drew on the pew with his pencil, even after I told him to keep it on the paper, stomped his feet to make loud sounds, etc...I took him out twice and made him sit on the naughty steps. They were having a social cookie hour after the service, but after the third time of...

What to Do About the Bully

My daughter has had a problem with a certain girl at school for 2 years now. They are both in 2nd grade. I have talked to the principle about the issues and thought it had been resolved but the little girl keeps seeking my daughter out to make fun of her clothes, hair, shoes etc... The problem is is that the little girls mom is an employee at the school. The little girl was suppose to get detention but that some how slipped through the cracks and she never did serve it and she knows it. She tells my daughter that all her mom has to do is...

Creative Discipline for a 3-Year-old?

My 3 year old daughter recently started hitting out of frustration like she did at 18 months old. Only now that she's older, it's generally combined with words like, "stupid" and "poopy pants" and other mean words. She is not taking me seriously when I discipline her and will actually laugh at me. Does anyone have any creative discipline methods other than time outs since they don't work with her? I would really appreciate some help since I am at my wits end and don't feel like an effective parent.

Theatre Manners (Live and Movies)

Last night I brought my six year old to see the stage production of the Lion King. It was absolutely amazing and I am so glad we went! It is the first show of that scale that he has attended and the longest at nearly 3 hours. I had several conversations with him about manners, emphasizing that the theatre is a very special place, people pay a lot to be there, and we need to be respectful of the actors and others who put on the production. You may clap and of course laugh, but no talking while the lights are down AT ALL. So we arrived,...

Daughter Keeps Saying That She's Scared...

My 2 yr. old daughter keeps telling us that she is scared of things. Sometimes, it seems like she is just startled by something, like when one of our cats runs around, but other times it is something bizarre. Last night, as we were reading a new book, there was a tiny picture of a walrus, and she kept saying that she was scared of the walrus. Huh? She has seen pictures of walruses before, and it never freaked her out. She is also scared of puppets, and things on her hands. Since birth, she has never liked her hands covered, so that one...

Gift Idesa for a Friend with a Special Needs Child

I have a friend who is mother to a beautiful little girl who has quite a lot of mental and physcal issues (MS for one, brain damage at birth, etc.). She is in a wheelchair and requires constant care. She will be turning 4 this year on her birthday and every year I am at a complete loss as to what to get her for her birthday. I was hoping some moms out there could give me some ideas. She of course does not play with toys as she is confined to a wheel chair. In the past I have bought clothes but I would love to give her something more...

How Do You Handle Tantrums in Young Toddlers?

I have 21 month old boy/girl twins (also a 7 year old boy) who a few months ago started really testing us. What do you do when your young toddler has a tantrum? I honestly can't remember what I did when my oldest was this age and lately I've been overwhelmed by the whining, crying, and arguing times 2 toddlers! I'm working on teaching them some basic sign language to help them get their point across, but they never use it in the heat of the moment. Do you use timeouts? Ignore it? Something else? Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks ladies :)

History; He has always had us to himself... he did not go thru the terrible 2-3 yr old behavior... We had a...
