Hi, I get my Bday off from work with pay, but don't know what to do with myself on my Bday/day off. (FYI I don't want to throw a party for myself) How do you treat yourself on your bday? Thank you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your ideas and encouragement. I decided to have breakfast at McDonald's with my teenage daughter before taking her to school- after that I got a facial, a haircut and my eyebrows waxed. I did a little shopping, spent time with my puppy and ended it with dining out with my family. On my 2009 calendar, a couple of weeks before my bday-I will make myself notes with all the good ideas all of you provided me and didn't get to do. One of them "a massage", my massage therapist was booked on this day (my bday), next year I'll call her ahead. I truly appreciate your help and wish all of you an awesome next bday.

On my birthday I love to do things I never get a chance to do. Often I get a massage, I have gone to a matinee all by myself!!!, and I always treat myself to a few of my favorite pieces of chocolate from Fannie May.

SPA DAY! Massage, mani/pedi, facial, waxing etc. You can find a good package for approximately $180 at lots of places... the facial might be a mini facial or only a 20-minute massage or something like that, but still a nice way to spend the day.

Happy early born day!

first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :-) To answer your question, if it's your birthday, you can do whatever you darn well please! :-) But I do understand your desire not to "toot your own horn", so to speak. the way around that and to still enjoy the presence off those you want to celebrate with is to find a spot that YOU really enjoy (be it a restaurant, a spa, a museum, a park, etc) and invite them to join you. You can just let them know that you wanted to be with those you really enjoy on your birthday and couldn't imagine them not being a part of that special time (use whatever lingo is "you") and enjoy your "not a party". :-)

I heard it said that "happy birthdays" are not accidental. So if you REALLY want to enjoy celebrating your life's anniversary, you'll need to create it in your mind how you REALLY want it to go, and take the necessary steps to make it happen.

Hopefully that was st least a little helpful! Enjoy celebrating YOU!

Personally, I would LOVE to be in your position. Spa days are ideal if the money is there! But in my current situation, I can't afford to spend that kind of money so I would love to be able to have a day to myself. I would love to spend a day being able to drive around and go to little stores and boutiques that I'm never able to lug 2 kids to, have lunch outside somewhere and be able to stop and read whenever I want. No interruptions and no time restraints....AAHHHH thanks for letting me daydream :-)

I have taken to planning my own birthday celebrations so I won't be disappointed. I like to combine some nice social time with friends with some pampering and indulgent activities. Lunch with girlfriends, a matinee, a refreshing yoga class followed by a massage...these are all things I have done in the past. I also love ballet and music so I look for concerts and performances to go to on my birthday. If your day is coming up soon, it would be nice to enjoy this beautiful fall weather. The Chicago Botanic GArden is great for walking around and then treating yourself to lunch at their restaurant.
Enjoy!

Wow!! How lucky you are to work for a company thats gives you your bday off!! If your like me, I am a total girly girl and I take my bday off as a vacation day. I go to the spa, get a massage, man-pedi, facial or what ever I feel like pampering myself. I have 2 kids and a husband. I do alot for them and sometimes don't feel appreciated for all the things I take care of so I make sure to take of myself even if it's one day a year!! Go to the zoo,(BY YOURSELF or with a close friend, NO KIDS) and really read what it says on all the captions of each animal. Or, stay in bed and read a book and put up your feet! Have a great day!

Happy birthday - doesn't get any better than getting paid for a day off on your birthday! You don't say if there is a husband/significant other, kids, etc....so here goes.

I usually start my birthday with a great cup of coffee. Then, the tradition in my family is to wake up to the Beatles song "Birthday!", resounding through the house, immediately followed by the Disney/Hercules soundtrack song, "A Star is Born". Cards are opened, calls from sisters and girlfriends singing, "Happy Birthday" usually follow. Girlfriend lunch, (I'm willing to add a good massage & spa to my tradition!). My family comes home, we open presents, have a great dinner - either at a restaurant, or my husband is an awesome cook and splurges on me. I open presents that the kids have purchased, with dad, then, my husband and I open a really good bottle of wine, reminisce and enjoy family time. May sound boring to some but...really I hope I've instilled in my kids & family that it is important to celebrate the day that celebrates your birth. Oh...last year's birthday was a bit different, I BOUGHT my family a birthday gift on MY birthday, in January, ....a puppy (a two-month old GoldenDoodle), She's awesome and the gift that keeps giving! Happy birthday - start a new tradition and whatever it is, enjoy!

How about a spa day? It doesn't have to be extravagant. Just a manicure and pedicure if facials aren't your thing or get your hair done. Do something to pamper yourself, even if it is just a bubble bath with candles. Going shopping or out to eat with friends would be fun too. Enjoy yourself and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Dear L.,
Happy Birthday, mine is in about 2 wks. I come from a big family and we only celebrate every 5 yrs. So, I've learned that if I want my birthday to be special, I have to do it myself. I sometimes made plans with one of my favorite people like my friend Eddie or one of my other friends and made plans for a day out either shopping, or a day trip somewhere or just a nice dinner out with someone whose company I enjoy. Since I don't know much about you, I can only say that I hope you "Dance" as the song goes and celebrate your life, take a minute to think about all the lives that you have touched for the better and celebrate all the special ways that you are unique and the people in your life that love and value you.
Happy Birthday

If money is tight, go to the Triccoci University and have the students have their way with you, or one of the Aveda Institutes... just have a blast! Get hilights, or a color change, cut, blow dry etc... even a manicure/pedi It can be under $100... Just enjoy your day!

Ok, to me this is an easy one- I would start my day with a nice coffee out, then hit the spa! A bit of pampering would be divine, massage, facial, body scrub, pedicure...a nice quiet lunch, maybe a bit of shopping...have either a good friend join you if possible, or a significant other meet you out for dinner...the possibilities are endless! What a great thing- day off with pay for your birthday! Enjoy your day!!!

I agree with the others- go to the day spa if you can. Get a massage and pedicure or something. Or, just go shopping and treat yourself. Or, get some much needed stuff done- Christmas shopping perhaps- and treat yourself to lunch or something that day. Or, just lounge around in bed all day. Just enjoy yourself and do what you love to do. It's a day where you don't have to feel guilty for treating yourself, because it's your birhtday. Enjoy!

Hi. My fiance and I have the same birthday, we didn't want a party but wanted to do something fun, as we both get the day off of work, so for our birthday this year I went to the Field Museum. I say do something like that. Take in a show, musical, museum or just a really nice dinner at a place you wouldn't normally go to and ask a couple of others if they would like to go also. I have to say it was great and we plan on doing something similar next year.

Dear L.,

I think this depends on you - what do YOU want to do for your birthday? Do you have kids/spouse with you? My husband had to work for my birthday last week, so my 6 month-old son took me out to lunch and shopping at the mall. It was actually wonderful!

If you have the day to yourself - what about getting some spa treatment - mani/pedi, massage, facial, etc? Or going someplace you'd enjoy - a musuem, the zoo, whatever it is. :)

First of all, happy birthday to you! I work for a nonprofit organization in Chicago that serves homeless and at-risk teenage mothers. (www.newmomsinc.org) We have a lot of women, and even an occasional man or child that feel the same way you do. What many of them have chosen to do is to have a party with all of their friends, and let their guests know NOT to bring them any presents or anything, but to bring gifts or money for the organization of their choosing. In our case, many people have their guests bring toys for the young children in our program, or cash donations for our organization. It's a really great way for you to celebrate, and enjoy a nice time with your friends while also doing some really good work.

I would really encourage you to look at some possible organizations that you would like to support, and do something similar. It means the world to organizations like ours too!

Happy Birthday!

Sounds like a spa day opportunity to me! Go get a facial and a mani/pedi. If that's too pricey, think about treating yourself to lunch at your favorite cafe and then spend all the time you want at a bookstore. What about seeing a movie or going antiquing? There are probably a million things you want to do that you never get to do because of your committments. Do something you haven't done in a long time.
