Hey moms! I am looking for an air purifier for our home. What does everyone else use? What brands and what are the costs and what do you like best about them? I'm looking at the Oreck ones right now. (I love my vaccuum!!!) Does anyone have anything to say about that brand?? Thanks in advance!

In response to my latest post, Oreck air purifiers do not have filters to be replaced. Plus it has a lifetime warranty on the Thurman Cell.

What can I do next?

i don't have anything negative to day about the oreck other than you would have to have one in every room in your house to make it effective. also they have filters you need to replace every month. for these two reasons is not very cost efficient.

we have an air oasis in our home and it's the most awesome air purifier ever!!!!!
no filters to change and it's not a huge one that looks gaudy with your decor. how cool is that?!

we are dealers (in amarillo) and the factory is local.
please go to our website and check it out there is so much information which will be helpful to you in making your choice.

Hi, I have a couple of the "Austin" air purifiers -- and love them. I rec'd a recommendation from somoene else that they were the best and most reliable; they are costly, but I think well worth it! I have one in my kids room and their bigger model for downstairs since we have two pets.

Do you have an oreck vaccum. I am in need of 2nd vaccum and my DH wants me to buy an oreck? Can you tell me about your oreck; what brand and how you think it works given the fact that its a bag type as well, etc. Thanks,
K.

Look for the smallest micron particle filtration possible and also look for the ease and cost in replacement filters.
Look for the square footage of the room too for the size.
Too small not efficient enough, too large you waste your money.

HOLMES is sold in WalMart Target or online.
I paid $89 for mine. Bought one for each room. Fantastic for our allergies and hay fever.
National Safety Associates (NSA) sells great filters with a rep. I used to work for them many years ago so knew what to look for in a filter.

Something else I would like to try are those static filters that dust clings to it but so expensive. heard they were good too.

PS: These are great for kids that get a lot of ear infections from mucus drainage. It does dry the air so watch for that too.

I would only caution you to check very closely BEFORE you make a purchase of any air purifier. Some emit ozone, and will tell you that it's a "natural air cleaner". Keep in mind that ozone is a pollutant - it's why we have "ozone alert days". If an air purifier claims to "cure" ANYTHING - you should have serious doubt. I have even read that ionic air cleaners are not good. When my parents began selling ozone air cleaners, I checked with my son's pulmonologist about them. He said to limit my son's time at my parent's house and ask them to turn the ozone generator off before we go over. He even questioned why anyone would want to introduce OZONE into their air! Ozone is an irritant. Check on the EPA website for information. Here's one of their articles about Ozone generating units:
http://www.epa.gov/appcdwww/iemb/ozone.htm
In fact, here is a very good article on the EPA website about air cleaners in general
http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/airclean.html

Best of luck to you.

I LOVE MY ORECK VACUUM TOO! It gives a whole new meaning to cleaning. If I were to buy an air purifier, the Oreck brand is the only one that I would buy.

Hey Leslie:
This is A. again. I read a response you received regarging this inquiry and I just had to repsond. The comment was made that Oreck purifers were basically no good and that you had to buy new filters for them every month. That is NOT true. All you have to do is pull it out every month and run it under the faucet! It is that easy! The filters on them have limited Lifetime warranty and they are so powerfull that they can purify the air of a 1500 sq foot room! As far Ions being released into the air, Not with the Oreck air purifiers! They are 100% SAFE for you and the Ozone! I hope this helps with your decision.

Just make sure that you do not get an ozone generator. Go to http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html to read about them. I used to do indoor air at EPA and many of the air purifiers are ozone generators which are bad for everyone, but especially children.

The best kind to get is one with a HEPA filter, if you even need one...

I would go with the Oreck one.

I have the Honeywell purifiers that Lowe's sells, but I am considering purchasing the Oreck purifier to replace the ones I have. The Honeywells that I have are pretty old 5-11 years old or older, and they are starting to sound funny. Another thing about the Honeywells is that you have to buy the replacement filter "wrap" and cut them to fit. It's a mess. You have to do that every 3 months. Then, on top of that, you are supposed to buy a whole new part to the filter once a year, and it is at least $50.

I don't know much about the Orecks, but I thought I would tell you what NOT to buy! I would love to hear more about your Oreck vacuum, too.
