Just wondering what your babys heart rate was at 7 wks. Mine was 144bpm and the ultra sound doc. said it was very good. Just wondering what yours was and what was the sex of your baby in the end. With my daughter it was 177bpm so im wondering maybe we might be having a boy this time.

What can I do next?

The heartbeat may depend on a lot of factors, including if the baby is moving, but not based on the sex. I didn't have an early u/s, and my first baby kept running away from the Doppler when we tried to get his heartbeat, until 15 weeks. [Yes, I'm convinced he could hear or feel it, because when we *did* finally track him down at 15 weeks, it was only for a few seconds before he moved away again; and then every time after that, even in labor, when the Doppler was on, he would wiggle and try to move away.]

Anyway, his heartbeat later in pregnancy was about 160 bpm, so my family was all thinking "girl," but he's very definitely a boy!

The heartbeat thing is based on the reality that bigger animals have slower heartbeats than smaller animals; and babies have faster heartbeats than adults. So, the thinking was, perhaps size has something to do with it, and since girls are generally smaller than boys, they should have a faster heartbeat. But the size difference is so small, esp. early in pregnancy, that even if it were true, it wouldn't apply.

My son's was low, my daughter's was really high...and we are going to have #3 be a surprise and so far we've gotten 177 and 148 for heart rates, haha!! (I'm 13 weeks now) This baby will keep us guessing!

By the way, I just have to tell you that my husband and I visited Nashville last summer for the first time, and we FELL IN LOVE!! We are hoping to start applying for jobs out there in the next few years!!
