I know this has been asked before, I searched but didn't find an answer. Anyway, what is the sell percentage for used furniture? 50% 70% off? I know condition plays a big part, but I just need a general idea. I paid $300 for the 3-in-1 crib and $250 for the small dresser, they are both in great condition, even the rails on the crib are like new since my daughter never put a bite mark on them. So what's a fair price? I'm also aware of the ban on drop down cribs, this is not an issue. TIA! PS. they were purchased end of 2007 :)

What can I do next?

I always (and still do) donate my kids things. There are people out there who need things and if I can afford to donate, I do. Now if I couldn't I'd sell. But if you can afford to donate them to someone in need, maybe consider doing that.

I'd also put a low price on them. They are 5 years old and even if they are in like-new condition, people looking to buy used wouldn't pay half of what you paid. If they wanted to do that, they would go buy a cheaper brand new set. So I'd not put it for more than $150 for the set...and that might be pushing it.

Please know that unless the crib (since it IS 5 years old) passes the NEW safety standards for cribs, current to this year, you can NOT resell it.

That whole drop side crib thing? Remember that whole bit? If your crib is one of these, it is against the law for you to resell it. Period.

You can keep it and use it for yourself, at your own risk, yadda, yadda. But it is against the law to resell them.

Just FYI.

Considering that they are 5 years old, I'd say $175 for both.

I wouldn't pay more than a hundred for the set. You are pricing for people that can't afford a new one or want a bargain.

Unless it is high quality it loses most of its value as soon as it is used.

Pretty much unless there is a time issue, like you really need the money now, there is no reason you can't put it on Craigslist at 300 and keep lowering the price till someone bites.

I would probably just do $300 for both. Look on craigslist in your area and see what people are pricing things at. If you are much higher than everyone else, you probably won't sell.

Hello,
I've bought and sold a lot of furniture items on Craigslist. If the furniture is in excellent condition, the going sell rate seems to be 1/2 of the original purchase price and on down. I always list my items for slightly more than I'm willing to take as everyone likes to dicker a little and feel like they're getting a good deal. Good luck!

Could you reuse the small dresser for another purpose other than selling it?They make great decorative pieces through out a home

Crib I would ask around $200
Dresser I would ask around $180

The goal is to make the price such that people will want to buy yours more than a new one. Yes you want to make some money back, but at the same time, if you only price it $50 less then a new one, 4-5 times people will go for the new one.

Like NBinMN said below, keep in mind that a five year old crib must meet current safety standards. Here's a link from the consumer product safety commission on reselling cribs.

If your crib is OK to resell, I guess it depends on where you are trying to sell it that will determine the price. You may try and list them for $300 for the pair and see if you get any offers. If you don't get any action, you can drop the price from there.
I just bought a used crib and dresser that cost almost $900 new and paid $125 for the set. :0)
