What to Do with Extra Diapers?

Before our baby came, we had a diaper shower and received SO many diapers! Now that baby is here and its 3 months later, we have a TON of diapers still. We received many different sizes and brands and he wasn't able to use all of them because he's grown so fast. Does anyone know of a place that I can donate the diapers? Most are unopen boxes, but some are open because we used half of the box. I would love to donate them somewhere and clear some space in the nursery.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all for the answers and suggestions! I ended up giving some to my mother in laws friend who has an expectant daughter and I brought the rest to St. Michaels in Bedford. Sorry to the ladies who asked for them, I didn't read those responses until just recently. I might have more in a few weeks since my little guy is growing so fast and we have more than enough size 2 pampers! I'm assuming he'll be outgrowing those soon. Thank you!

There is a place in Weatherford called the Grace House. They could certainly use them! It is a crisis pregnancy center and they can always use diapers. Give them a call. It's not that far of a drive from FW and totally worth it to help out these women that need help so desperately.

Find out if your area has a home for homeless families or battered women and their children. If not, you can always take them to a local church - they are bound to have an outreach program or someone they can contact. Or take them to the Good Will. I'm sure they are happy to sell them!!

I agree with Valerie about Grace house! They helped me out sooooo much when I was a singe 18 year old mommy. Also, in Ft. Worth is a ministry called World Relief. My church works with them. They are a big help for refugee families here in Texas and especially the 500 families in S. Fort Worth! Their # is ###-###-####.

If they are not open most stores will take them back or at least exchange them for bigger sizes. It 3 months you still have a long time to use diapers. Homeless shelters and womans shelters should take the open packages.

There are many places in the Metroplex that can and will accept your donation of diapers. My personal favorite plate to donate things is Mission Arlington. They help so many needful people. you can contact them by phone or online, and they sometimes can come and pick up your useful donated items.

There is a couple of different things you could do:
1. Post them on Cregslist for some $
2. Your nearest hospital with a pediatric floor would love it,
3. Daycares
4. Churches could hook you up with needy families
5. shelters

Hope this helps.

If you have "many" unopened boxes or bags of diapers and you're on a budget, I know for fact that WalMart will let you exchange them for another size if needed.

I got around 20 packs of diapers when my son was born and I used them til he grew out then exchange the rest and then used them and so on...

The old ones I had that he grew out of I gave to our day care...

Smiles to you and your wee one...

Take the opened boxes to your church, or list them on freecycle. No good food pantry will take them. However, the food pantry should take any unopened packages!

How about a local church to use in their nursery. OR they may know of some families that could use them. I think that the Wesley Mission Center in Mansfield would take them and distribute them to those in need as well.

Great question! So many organizations need diapers--you could almost choose any that really strikes your and donate, like women's shelter's, church service centers, perhaps even some moms in the area (like Freecycle). Also, you might see (I've heard you can do this) take the unopened boxes and trade them at a local store for a larger size. Other moms out there know more about this probably, but I always heard you could change sizes on new packages because many people experience the same problem you've had. Good luck!

Depending on where you live there are a few good options.

1) Crisis Pregnancy Centers
2) Domestic Violence Organization
3) Homeless Shelter or Organization
4) A Church that Serves these type of people or who run a food/clothing bank

I know the MidCities Pregnancy Center can take them, Mission Arlington, and if you just put in one of the above in Google and search for ones near you, there are dozens of others.

I had a city wide baby shower several years ago for the CPS office in Arlington - we collected much more than we had expected but we did it in order to gather up a supply of diapers for emergency pick ups of infants. The other thought would be to offer them to Mission Arlington or Arlington Charities. So many are in need right now, these days. You are an angel to share.

Reaching out to Empower People is a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization that provides charitable services beneficial to minorities dealing with social issues including, but not limited to: lack of healthcare, lack of education or under educated, displacement/homelessness, lack of parenting skills, co-occurring mental health/substance use disorder, and HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

One of our projects is The Houston Area Diaper Pantry which exists to fill an unmet critical need for diapers among the most vulnerable in our community. None of the "Safety Net" Programs pay for or provide diapers, leaving those with the fewest resources with even fewer options.

We invite and strongly encourage you to donate your diapers to our organization. We serve families in the Houston/Harris County area. For more information, please feel free to contact our Executive Director, M. D. at ###-###-####.

Freecylce.org. I love that site. As a single poor mom it's the best place for me to go to get stuff I need. What you do is you sign up and the you can post things and then and email is sent out to people in your area and then they email you and then you can pick who you want to give them too. They then pick them up. Here in UT we just put them on the porch or somewhere tucked away.

I'm sure Real Choices Crisis Pregnancy Center would accept them, and you might try a women's shelter. They have women come in with their kids and NOTHING but the clothes on their backs, so that might work.
