What to Buy a 10 Year Old

My nephew is turning 10 and I'm wondering if anyone has ideas on good birthday gifts. I asked him what he wanted and he said a football game for his x-box or a dirt bike. Of course we won't be getting him a dirt bike and I don't want to get him a video game (a little too expensive). He loves playing sports ( baseball and football) being outside, and listening to music.

What can I do next?

Hi D.!

Does the child have access to the Internet? Maybe a subscription to a club like Club Penguin (my ten year old loves it) would work... it's not expensive and lets the kids do a little more than if they're on free membership.

What about a pogo stick? Ten is the perfect age for learning how to use one, and it entertains my 10 year old son and his friends for hours outside while providing some great exercise and promoting balance at the same time.

I have a son that is 10 soon to be a 11 and he also likes gift cards. He also loves sports. Does your nephew collect football or baseball cards? My son loves to get those and we bought little plastic pages that will hold the cards and a cheap binder to hold the pages at Walmart for around $10 for everything. He also really likes legos.
Hope this helps~

Kids at this point do well with a gift card. I know they are not much fun to wrap or give, but they really are a good purchase. My 12 y.o. son loves getting Blockbuster, Wal-Mart and Barnes and Noble gift cards. He can get whatever he likes, within our limits, when he's ready! He enjoys renting a few games for his X-Box at Blockbuster. HTH!

We bought my husbands cousin who at that time was around 10 or 11 a walkie talkie set. He loved them he could be outside playing with his friends and siblings for hours with them. You can usually get them pretty cheap. dunno how much you are looking at spending but you can usually get a kids set for around 20-30 dollars. There are more expensive ones but they usually have a very long range which is unecessary for such a young one.

What about those new roller tennis shoes? Or how about a gift card to a fun kids dinner place-Stonefire Pizza? Or take him one weekend and make it special--dinner and a movie. Otherwise what about a cool alarm clock or clothing with the sports he likes on them. What about a football jersey with his last name on the back of it?

Hi D.,
With kids around that age, I usually stick to Walmart or Target gift cards. That way they can spend the money on what they really want. :)
