Mustela is the best!! It's a bit pricey $14 for a 3 oz tube but it has the most mineral protection vs. chemical protection that is in so many other brands. You can find it online too. I like dermstore.com it's free shipping. Even though sunscreen protects from the sun the chemicals are absorbed into the skin and that isn't good for baby.

I read in "parenting" or some similar publication that the "under 6 mo." guideline was not because sunscreen was dangerous for little babies, but to discourage parents form having those under 6 mo. in the sun for any extended time. If your baby's skin tolerates it, you could use any brand.

Hello,
After 6 months sunscreen is safe, but a lot of them will sting the baby's eyes, because of the chemicals in it. We like the Arbonne ABC sunscreen. It is the only one that doesn't make my baby scream when it gets near her eyes. I thinkk California Baby and Burt's Bees make a more natural sunscreen that you can buy at Target (Arbonne you have to order). Good luck.

My doc said that when they are under 6 months just do the extremities. I used the bjorn a lot last summer and worried about his legs and arms and she said just to do legs and arms. My friend has a "stick" sunscreen which would be great for last minute sunscreen and for the diaper bag.

S.,

We are expecting any minute now and I was just reading up on this. In the Baby 411 book (EXCELLENT book if you don't already have it!) the Docs say that the "baby" sunscreen (tear free, etc.--any brand) is safe even for newborns. They say that the risk of sun damage is far higher than possible skin irritation (which should not occur anyhow.) Of course, 1st try to keep the baby shaded, with a hat, etc. But they say the gentle "baby" sunscreens are fine at any age.

I think all sunscreens say 6 months. Under 6 mths they really aren't in the sun very long & can be covered up more because they aren't mobile. I used Mustela on all my kids under 6 mths. It's mineral based.

We use sunscreen that is 50 and I bought it at Costco but you can buy it at Target,Wal-Mart and almost any other store. Its the banana boat baby. Works great and we have used it for years. If you are going to be out for a long time make sure you apply it after a few hours. Hats are good but not all babies keep them on. Enjoy the nice weather

I just started using sunscreen...I had bought some for babies at Target (bannana boat) for around $8, but when I got it home, I realized it wasn't the tear-free kind. I then bought some at Costco - Coppertone for babies (tear-free). I got a package of 3 bottles for $10. I've used it twice and my son seems to be fine with it. I was concerned because he developed a little rash when I used Aveeno lotion on him in the past, but he didn't have a reaction to the sunscreen. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but if you have a costco membership, I recommend buying sunscreen there.

To tell you the truth, when my children were little like that, I used coppertone. I asked my pediatrician about it and she said it was fine and then i found out that if you get the higher spf, it doesn't do no more or no less then the spf of 50. I hope that helps

Our daughter was very sensitive to sunscreen, we found that all the ones that say "hypoallergenic" are safe. There are several varities at whole foods, we like the jason and california baby.
