Dr. Browns worked for us. They're the only ones that didn't leak and they had a good flow for my son (other bottles were too fast or too slow). They're a pain to clean though. My husband declared Dr. Brown to be his arch-nemesis.
Hey there. We are pregnant with our third baby and looking for what kind of bottles we want to buy. I have heard good things about the Avent bottles, but before I make any purchases I would love to know what kind of bottles you used for your baby and if you liked them or not. Thanks so much! :)

My advise is do not buy too many bottles before that baby is born. I invested about a hundred dollars into a certain bottle that was suppose to make it easy for the baby to breastfeed and bottle feed. Well when my first born was came along, he would have nothing to do with these bottles. My daycare provider bought some Avent. He did take to those.
My second child never had a bottle so when I needed a bottle for my third, I immediately went to Avent again. Again success even though we did not use a bottle very often.
My sister had a baby three weeks later and asked my opinion. I immediately reccomended Avent. However, they did not work for her baby. She ended up finding success with Dr. Browns.
So, I would just buy a few to see if they work before making an investment.
Congratulations by the way!
I used Avent for my oldest DD and Tomme Tepee for my baby and I love this last one!! even the sipping cups are great!!
My kids loved the NUK kind.
My son used Dr. Browns for a few months, but they were hard to really get completley clean so we switched to Gerber Nuk. He was very picky about bottles and these are the only 2 brands he took out of the probably 10 we tried.
My daughter used Sassy MAM bottles (which I plan to use with #3, they are awesome bottles) and Gerber Nuk. Like her brother, she wa also picky and ended up going to the Nuk.
I have used avent w all 3 of my children. I like them, but do not know anything different, lol.
congrats on baby.
Hi Mama
I love Dr. Browns !

I used playtex drop in bottles for all three of my kids. I would wash and reuse the liners for one week and then throw them away to cut down on cost/waste. I liked them because in addition to the three flows of nipples, there was also a tricut nipple (says it's for cereal in the bottle) but it allowed baby to control the flow depending on the compression of the mouth. It, in turn, wouldn't leak or drip if placed upside down which was a big plus for me.
Dr. Brown bottles are THE BEST! My son had acid reflux and we've tried everything...nothing worked, except Dr. Brown.
I used Avent with my son and they worked really well with him...my mother was the one that recommended them to me...i am currently pregnant and plan on using this brand with my daughter...my sister also says that the playtex bottles are really great!
I vote Dr. Brown's too but have to 2nd the cleaning concern. They give you this cute little bristle brush, but you still have to remember to clean them immediately .. the ones that get left in the car for a few days are pretty much throwaways.
I used Avent for my third child. He and I had breastfeeding issues from the beginning and I had heard that the Avent bottles were "best" at mimicking the shape of the breast. Whether or not this is true, I couldn't say for sure but I liked them very much.
We used and liked Dr. Browns the only thing is the cleaning is a few steps ... but those are what I would use again. Oh and when he was older and nearly done with bottles we used the gerber triangle shaped ones for a few months.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Born Free yet. They were invented by Dr Green who is a well known pediatrician. We started out with Playtex (not the drop-ins) and they eventually started leaking. We switched to Born Free for her reflux and they were awesome. We've been using them ever since. The parts are easy to clean and put together. This is completely irrelevant but I think its kind of funny...anytime I check out a gossip mag I usually see celebrities using Born Free. Just a dumb bit of trivia! Good luck to you!
I used Avent with baby #1 and #2. Now I use Dr. Browns with Baby #3.
I've owned many different bottles. If your baby does not struggle with gas, Avent it great because there are not so many parts to clean. Dr. browns and similar bottles are made to eliminate gas but they have so many parts and pieces to clean that its not worth it unless your baby actually struggles with gas. Many people love the platex drop ins, especially if you pump and work. After trying many, I ended up using my Avent the most. The lids can be tricky and we had a number of incidences with leaking. The trick is not to have the lid too tight or too loose.
I used Avent with my son and am currently using them with my daughter. I would definitely suggest Avent if you are going to breastfeed first. They both seemed to prefer Avent nipples to any others after they were breastfed. I also think they are easy to clean and assemble.
Congrats on baby # 3! I used Avent bottles for my son and thought they worked great. For some stupid reason when i had my daughter i switched to born free.(something about the venting system and bpa free,etc...). anyway i hate them. they are terrible, there are so many parts to clean and the nipple is so soft that it collapess into itself. not fun during a 2 am feeding.. stick with the avent. you won't be sorry...good luck!!
we also used the Nuk and they worked out very well.
I love my playtex drop in bottles. We reuse the liners for a few times then get a new one to help with the cost.
With my first child, we started with Dr. Brown's but we're having problems with the flow rate, no matter what size nipples we used. When he was about 6 months, we started using Born Free and I LOVE them. We used them for our 2nd child and have had no problems. Plus they have a few less "parts" and it makes them easier to clean.
My favorites were the plain old glass Gerber bottles. I bought different nipples, though. Venting (or the lack of) never seemed to make much of a difference for my kids.
I liked the Avent because I could use them later with the sippy cup top. I mostly used Doc. Brown though. My son was quite colicky and it seemed to help a bit. They ARE a pain to clean though. My son was not picky about what he drank from, as long as he was getting fed! LOL But I know some babies are picky. Get a few different ones and a few different nipples (silicon, latex, wide, etc) to see if your baby has a preference.
I bf'd both my son and daughter, but pumped and froze bottles as well. We LOVE the Avent. I used their bottles, double electric pump, seals, sterilizer and bottle warmer. The whole system is very convenient and user friendly for mom and babe. Really love how I could pump into the bottle, seal and freeze it, then just switch out the seal with a nipple to warm and feed. No transferring of milk from one container to another. Never had leak problems or excessive gassiness. DD is moving on to cups now so sadly we are not going to be using this system anymore. It was an absolute dream for the 3 years we used it though!
Hi. We LOVED our Born free glass bottles. You can change the nipple level 3 times when they get gassy.

Good Luck!
We LOVE the Avent line and have everythinbg from cups/bottles to the Isis Duo breastpump. It's all super easy to clean bc there are few pieces. However, I caution to NOT buy too many before baby comes whether you're formula or breastfeeding. We were excited to use our son's old Avent bottles when our daughter was born, but she REFUSED to drink from them, and we ultimately had to buy a couple Tommee Tippees until she got used to the idea of drinking pumped milk (then we transistioned her to Avent). The Tommee Tippee's are the most alike a breast in shape, and we wouldve stuck with them if we didn't already have sooo many Avent and the pump to pump directly into Avent bottles. Bottom line: narrow down to two or three that you like. Buy some of your favorite and see whether your child agrees with your choice ;)
With my first daughter it was hard to get her to take a bottle (I was breastfeeding) so we tried many different kinds until we found one that worked for us. We tried the Breastflow ones from BabiesRus, Dr. Browns (both had too many parts to clean IMO so I was glad she didn't like them!), Playtex VentAire, Avent, and ended up using the Playtex Drop-In Nursers. They were convenient, easy, and she took them better than all the other ones. You can push on the bottom to get all the air out and that was a big plus for my daughter. They were also super easy to clean since the liners get thrown out (though I did wash them sometimes too).
I guess what I'm saying is that you have to find what works for you AND your baby. There are so many different kind out there because every baby/mom combo likes different bottles.
BTW - if you go with the playtex drop-in bottles, get the Target brand liners. They're just as good and MUCH cheaper.
Have you seriously considered the advantages of breastfeeding? Just asking.
If I were you I would buy only one bottle of different kinds to see which one the baby likes. When my daughter was born I bought a big box of bottles (I think they were the nuby bottles) and she didn't like them, so I change for another brand (I forgot the name) and she didn't like them either, so I had 9 like new bottles just sitting around, finally I decided just to buy a single bottle (the last brand I bought was the Gerber first essentials and she loves them! So I guess it all depends on the baby.
