While my little ones love whole wheat bread, I am introducing whole wheat tortillas just recently. I would like to make them yummy so they are not turned off right away. Suggestions? I am particularly looking for things I can send with them to school in their lunchboxes.

Thanks moms!

This may be a repeat of someone else but this week I have been making bean and cheese rollups for my kids and the LOVE them. Tortilla, black beans, shredded cheese, tomatoes and/or blk olives...microwave or toast till cheese melts and sticks everything togther. So easy for brown bag lunch.

My son love whole wheat tortillas. I put peanut butter (or other nut butters), cream cheese and jelly, humus, and any other spread we have. He also loves quesadillas cold, left over in his lunch. Check out weelicious.com for some great ideas like that for things to pack in lunches. She said in a recent post that her son will eat anything if she puts it in a quesadilla.

If you are looking for school lunch ideas she also has a facebook page and posts her son's lunch everyday.

You could try what I have always called Armenian sandwiches (my mom worked for a caterer). A tortilla with cream cheese mixed with jalepanos, diced purple cabbage, shredded cheese, guac, and cold cuts. Roll it all up, cut into 1-1.5 inch lengths. Just alter this to your kids' likings.

You can also do eggs and bacon.

A couple weeks ago I sent a wrap to school and it was a hit!! It was a little mayo (very little) a few slices of ham, lettuce and a thin slice of cheese. I folded in the bottom then rolled it up. It was beautiful and she thought it was gourmet!!! Good luck!!

My son is only 19 months, but he would second the vote on hummus (with spinach). He also likes them made into mini-pizzas or with black beans, salsa, and cheese (and sometimes chicken).
Of course, he's been known to eat them plain or dipped in yogurt (I think he'd eat his shoe if it was dipped in yogurt!)

Spread with Cream Cheese and or Guacamole. Add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, thin sliced turkey, and chopped onion. Roll it up and enjoy. It's delicious.

Really, you can add anything you would put on a sandwich normally and roll them up to eat.

Another vote for the tortilla with peanut butter, banana, and put in some sliced almonds for a little crunch.

Depending on their tastes, I make a thai chicken tortilla - grill chicken and then chop it up and toss with thai peanut sauce. Roll into the tortilla with shredded carrots, shredded red cabbage (both shreds can be bought pre-shredded), and shredded mozarella cheese.

You can also do tons of other variations:
italian - chicken, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and any veggie toppings (peppers, onions, pepperoni, diced tomatoes, etc.)
mexican - chicken, salsa or taco sauce, smashed avocado, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, cheese
greek - chicken, balsamic vinaigrette dressing, feta cheese, shredded lettuce
turkey sandwich - lunchmeat turkey, hummus or smashed avocado, spinach or lettuce, cheese of choice
vegetarian - hummus or avocado, peppers, sprouts, spinach, cheese (depending on how hard core vegetarian/vegan you want to be)

Ok, my first response is EVERYTHING! Anything that you would normally put on a sandwich. Leftover meat or sandwich meat with cheese, lettuce/spinch and mayo. I've made rollups with pb, a banana and a drizzle of honey, roll it up and slice in half. Our favorite is pizzadillas - quesodillas made with pepperoni, mozz cheese, parsley, whatever and a little bit of pizza sauce with extra sauce to dip it in. And we have breakfast burritos at least once a week. My kids just took homemade burritos in their lunch today - this morning i put ref beans, leftover taco meat and cheese, popped it in the microwave to melt the cheese for 30 sec, added spinach and sour cream. They love them even cold at lunchtime!!!

Peanut butter and banana is popular at my house. Depending on what your kids like, cream cheese and lunch meat and peppers are tasty ( green, red, yellow and orange) the peppers stay crunchy and the yellow is very mild, orange and red are sweet! My son also loves egg salad and tuna salad.
Pretty much anything you can make a sandwich out of you can put into a rolled tortilla. My kids also like pretzels and cut up apples with peanut butter to dip them in.
