Be grateful for being able to eat! I have a friend who can barely eat while pregnant, because she often ends up vomiting it or just feels sick a lot. I had that problem with my 2nd, but not as bad as my friend. Some smells will bother you, sometimes you just can't eat a lot. There are all kinds of ol' wives' tales of why, but I'm not sure if there are any medical reasons. Just use some common sense. You can never go wrong with fruits and veggies! Take your vitamins. The baby always gets what it needs before you do. Enjoy every bit of pregnancy that you can. Its an amazing experience and each so different! God Bless!! D. : D

Hot sauce isn't bad for you,, unless like you say, your tummy doesn't tolerate it right now.. but i ate a lot of hot sauce while i was pregnant. Hot wings etc. it was my craving. i did stay away from caffiene as much as i could. always make sure your meat is fully cooked. i usually like steak medium, but when i was pg, i suffered thru fully cooked :-\
There's really good books out there too, if you are into reading them. maybe try the freecycle website. maybe someone is giving one away. or other mom boards, maybe some one is willing to give or sell one cheap. if you don't have one yet.
the other posts pretty much touched on the other things i would suggest as well. and always come back here,, :-))
congratulations!! just you wanting to eat right shows how good of a mommy you will be :-)))

Your body will tell you what to eat. Like you said about the hot sauce, Your stomach didn't react too well. Try to make healthy choices when you eat. Stay away from shell fish, or any other fish that can have a high mercury content. Like tuna. It can be harmful to the baby. Also, if you have a cat, DO NOT clean the litter box. There is something in the poop and litter than can also be harmful to the baby.

Be glad you can eat! lol... I have 3 kids and was sick morning, noon and night with those pregnancies. Although I did have a hankering for chocolate chip cookies with one of them. And I ate plenty of them! lol..

Talk to your Dr. about your concerns and questions.

Congratulations!

Eat whatever it is that you feel like eating. When I was pregnant I ate sour cream by the spoonful cuz it was what I wanted. Your body will let you know what it doesn't like right now. If you love hot sauce and your body doesn't try tums for the heart burn and if that doesn't help, lay off the hot sauce for awhile. The first trimester my body didn't like much, but later on in the pregnancy I could eat whatever I wanted.

You can pretty much eat anything you want. Nothing is going to hurt your baby. If your worried about your weight then you should stay away from the junk food and try to eat more fruits and veggys and drink lot of milk..

I am a mother of 2 kids one 11 months and one 5 years.
Eating hot things or even spicy things isn't bad for the baby, it is just a matter of how your baby like's spicy things.
Junk food isn't very good to eat alot when you are prengant unless you want to be 600lbs.
When you are pregnant you eat enouf food that you should try to eat a variety of differant foods and then keep a journal so you know how your baby reacts to differant foods and then you can get a better idea of what agrees sith you.

Don't worry too much about what you eat. If you are in your first trimester and are eating, that is wonderful, it means you aren't feeling sick! Stay away from alcohol of course, and anything that makes you feel sick. Caffeine should be avoided as well, because the effects of it are not completely known on the baby. You can eat shell fish, but not more than 1 serving/week. Sushi should be avoided, unless the fish is cooked (like California Rolls). Oysters should also be avoided, and all fish should be cooked (no smoked fish). Other than that, just make sure to get enough protein and veggies and fruits. Carbs are good to eat if you are feeling nauseus. Also, remember that you only need 200 extra calories/day to feed your baby. That should help with not gaining too much unecessary weight during your pregnancy. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Your OB doc should have some sort of guide to help you choose good foods. But when I was pregnant with my son all I wanted was Broccoli and steak, mashed potatoes sometimes.

I don't think you can go wrong with lots of veggies, meats, and a few carbs. Just think back in the old days most families ate what they grew in their garden (stored for winter), meat was what the husbands when and shot, breads were if they grew something like potatoes, bread if they baked it,
Dessert-type things were as prevelant as these days, because sugar & flour were delicacies. So breads were made first. And in the long and short of it, many healthy babes came to be.

HI! Eating while your pregnant opens all kinds of possibilites!! First of all eating a good balanced diet should be what you want to do for you and baby. But . . .

Sometimes you just gotta have that one thing that you can't get out of your mind!! Like hot dogs for breakfast or food with hot sauce. I had to have both all the time when I was pregnant with my first one. She was born just fine and is now 19 and in college.

I guess visiting with your OB and keeping the junk in moderation would be your best bet. The less weight you gain when your pregnant, the less you have to take off when your not. I should know!! I'm still trying to lose the 60 pounds I gained with the last one, and he's 17!!

Take Care,
M

Most of the time your body will steer you in the direction of what you need to eat. If you take your vitamins and eat right you usually wont have "cravings". Just ask your doc what you should eat. Dont make the mistake of eating everything you see. You will regret it when that babys born and you cant get the weight off. With my son, I ate right and waited tables so I got a lot of excersize, I ended up only gaining 9 pounds. He was a 9 pound baby so it all worked out. Now this time I am not waiting tables, I work in an office and am not eating as good as I did before and I have 3 months to go and have already gained 10. Dont stress about it though. This is a wonderful time. Get involved in some parenting and birthing classes with your b/f. Keep keep involved! My hubby was very scared when we had our first and it nearly destroyed our relationship. Good luck hun and enjoy being pregnant!!! I love hot sauce too !

I am so excited for you K.! I gave birth to three beautiful children and believe me, I had a different craving for each one. I love the advice the other moms gave. They are right on, work on getting your veggies and fruits, meats. If you can stay away from all the garbage foods. I find that things in my pantry (flavored crackers, chips, junk) are things I want to stay away from. I'd stick with the foods God made for us such as the meat, especially chicken, and then fruits and veggies, whole grain breads.
Also, on the note of wanting a healthy baby, I want to get you some information about getting your environment healthy. There are many things in one's home that is awful for you and your baby. Here are a few: Clorox, 409, Comet, Crest toothpaste, Johnson's baby shampoo. (I know, that one shocked me too!!!)
Email me and I'll get you some information about this company that sells ONLY products that are good for the environment and our families. There are no harmful chemicals in these household cleaners. Clorox is actually a registered pesticide!! And Johnson's baby shampoo has formaldehyde releasers in it!! Horrible. The only time we should be around formaldehyde is when they're embalming us and putting us 6 feet under!
My personal email is: ____@____.com
Also, my website address in case you want to take a peek at what I do: http://tinamccomb.stayinhomeandlovinit.com
I represent this company that sells these products. I'm so glad I found them. My three kids have been so healthy since I got rid of all the nasty cleaners in my home!!
God bless you and your new baby on the way!

The best things not to eat while preggo are nitrates. I am sure your OB will tell you the same thing. Things high in nitrates are: lunch meat, bacon, little smokies, hot dogs, pretty much any processed meat. I would also stear completely clear of ANY fake sweetener - don't drink any diet anything!!! This includes splenda. Don't forget to take your multivitamen with extra follic acid. Good for you and the baby. AND, listen to your body. If you are craving red meat, eat it. I know that a lot of times your body craves what you need. Of course, this doesn't include junk food. ;) Just eat smart. If you have any specific food questions just holler. :) Good luck!!! congrats on the baby and you will make a GREAT mom. Especially since you are starting your caring now. :)

Well sweetie--that is the best part about being pregnant--you have an excuse to be fat and eat anything you want..:)(Just Teasing) Please stay away from the hot sauce and junk food.. If it is a sweet tooth you are having, try some fruit cocktail--canned fruit basically.. Make sure you are getting as much iron and calcium as you can.. There is nothing wrong with having junk food just be reasonable.. Each your vegetables as well--keep in mind this is for the baby whether you like it or not.. Your eating is nourshing your child.. Good luck..

I was your age when I had my son. I ate everything I wouldn't get sick from I had morning sickness throughout my whole pregnancy all day everyday untill he was born. It's okay to eat almost everything. Do not eat fresh water fish due to the fact that most of them have I think it's mercury in it. If you have heartburn then don't eat alot of spicey stuff for your own sake. As long as your getting your nutrients from what your eating then your ok to pig out.
