Weening from Formula to Milk

This may sound like a silly question but I didn't want to have to call Dr's office if it wasn't necessary. My son is 11 mo. and Dr. said since he's been on lactose free formula that I should start putting 1 ounce of whole milk in bottle for first week and then 2 ounces second week..etc. Since he normally gets a 6 ounce bottle (3 scoops of formula), do I now give him 2 1/2 scoops of formula since we are adding the milk or do I give him the 3 scoops since it's still 6 ounces?

What can I do next?

C.,
I would prepare the formula according to the directions and then mix THAT 5 ounces to the ounce of milk. (You know, like if you make enough for the day at once.)

When I was getting my son from formula to milk, that's how I did it except I was using the pre-mixed formula.

Hope this helps.

You are correct, 5 ounces of formula (2 1/2 scoops) plus one ounce of milk. When you are adding 2 ounces of milk, make 4 ounces of formula with 2 scoops etc etc.

as you increase the amount of regular milk, you decrease the amount of formula. Both the milk and the formula are combined in the same bottle together.

You're making 5 oz formula so only 2.5 scoops to 5 oz water and then add 1 oz milk. Next week it'll be 2 scoops to 4 oz water, etc.

If your son is already on a lactose free formula, I would not consider giving him real milk. I would consider giving him lactaid. You could try giving real milk. But I am assuming he's on lactose free formula for a reason

Hey C.,

My daughter just turned one on Friday and I did the whole mixing milk with formula thing for the last month. I did it for my first daughter also. Only mix the amout of formula needed for the water (5 ounces = 2.5 scoops). then add one ounce of milk.

Hope that helps!
