Hi mamas!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a new vacuum? We need a new one and there are so many out there at all different prices. In addition to regular vacuuming duties, our new cleaner has to pick up dog hair (we have a yellow lab). Any ideas?

Thanks, J.

I have to agree with those who have the Dyson and love it. I thought it was a little crazy to spend so much on a vacuum but I am so glad that I did. I have a black lab who sheds like crazy and it does a great job on both the hard wood floors and the carpet!!

I completely disagree....I say go bagless.
I just bought a vacuum last week and I love it, when I used it, it picked up so much more than my old vacuum had and pet hair was a concern for me as well. I highly recommend the Bissell lift off Pet version (it is blue). It also has a hepa filter which is important to me for my allergies. It has a pet turbo brush attachment and really picks the dog hair off of furniture etc...

I recently got Dyson..its quite expensive (600$), but does its job and the suction is really great. We got this when my daughter started crawling and i did not want to take any chances...I love it.

I highly recommend Hoover and DEFINITELY NOT bagless. I bought a bagless and it was a huge mistake. The dust just went right back in the air and all over the outside of the vacuum when I would empty it. I had to empty it outside and then clean the outside of the vacuum after each time and it was supposed to be emptied after every time vacuuming. Not fun...especially in the winter time. So I recomend a Hoover WITH a bag. Hoover's often been rated the best in consumer report for having the least amount of problems and such, so I'm loyal to Hoover. I've always been happy with them (except the bagless, but that's an issue with bagless vacs, not Hoover). :) Hope this helps! :)

Hi! I recently purchased my vacuum from Best Vac in St. Charles. I would recommend buying your new vaccum from a specialty vacuum store. They really know how to direct you rather than purchasing from walmart etc.

Hi J.,

Better late than never with a response! I also have a big yellow lab~ Bailey who sheds like CRAZY! I was going through at least a vacuum a year. I finally decided to invest in one real good one, The Oreck. It is pricey but, I have used it religiously for the last 3 years and have had no problems. Plus, I can take it in yearly for FREE for a check-up. We have hardwood and carpet and it works great on both.

Good Luck!

we also have a yellow lab who sheds like crazy. We were going to get a dyson but opted for a Kenmore (from Sears). I don't know the style, but it's purple...it was recommended on consumer reports. It was about $300...maybe $280...We LOVE IT!!!!!! It picks up the dog hair great. The bagless system is great. (btw, if you have dog hair, ou must go bagless or you will be changing the bag every day). The cool thing about this vacuum is that there are lights that are red when it senses dirt, it goes green when all the dust in that particular spot is gone. So you feel really good when you are done because you know it's clean (then you realize how you WEREN'T really doing a good job before when you just vacuumed really quickly before!) I highly recommend this, esp if you are hesitant to spend the money on a dyson.

I went on the Consumer Report website, they recommend the Hoover, it's around $350.00. I have the Rainbow water basin vacuum. The suction is incredible, you dump the water when you are done and it is especially good for pet dander and hair. There is no dust because all the dirt and dust goes into the water basin. Drawback: It costs $1500.00. I have had mine for 20 years though and it still works as good as the day I bought it. You can get them way cheaper on Ebay.

We have the Dyson Aminal (purple one) and it is the best. They are pricey ($500-550) but we have a cat, and after we had vacuumed with our old vacuum we ran this one over 2 rooms and the canister was full!! It is also very easy to use/empty and doesn't use bags.
