Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (under $200) HEPA Filtration vacuum that uses bags (allergist recommends bags over containers) that does a good job of cleaning your floors (also would be great if versatile from carpert to tile / wood floors)? Thanks!

I don't know of anything in that range.... I still have my 2 Hoover's that work great but are about 12 and 10 yrs old each (1 up and 1 downstairs). I did pay about $300 for each of them and they are good models. No HEPA filter though.

I just got the newest top model of Oreck (about 3 weeks ago) and it is exactly what it is cracked up to be. We spent about $800 including replacement bags. I do know that the Plano store will work with you on price.......(ex trade in? cash vs credit card?, etc)

I LOVE THIS VACUUM!!! It is SO lightweight, has the HEPA filter (Bag system), 10 yr warranty with yearly checks at the store. I do not feel the need for a second vacuum for my upstairs because this one is so lightweight, easy to use and works GREAT.

I also love the attachments that are separate. I can use the shoulder strap to hold the unit while I take care of wood, tile, corners, baseboards, air vents, etc.

The vacuum itself is supposed to be great on wood floors but I am VERY picky and I will not use it on my wood. I use the shoulder unit to sweep up then my dust mop and cleaner.

I always HATED the vacuum job and now I don't mind at all. It is so lightweight and easy I use it daily.

Hopefully you will find one you like in your price range. If you ever can get the Oreck, just go try them out. They do have cheaper models and have some on sale now at the Plano store.

Hoover Windtunnel Self-propelled. I got it on sale at Big Lots for $99. It is occasionally on sale. My neighbor got one and insisted that I try it. I fell in love!!! It is so lighweight and self-propelled. It has a hepa filter and a bag. Once I saw it go on sale again I got one.

I bought a Miracle Mate vacuum and have never looked back. I buy the bags off from a store on e-bay and have noticed they have some really nice used ones in your price range. They are solid steel and heavy duty. My maid loves mine. Just type in Miracle Mate and take a look.

Steve Black vacuum in Plano ###-###-#### has the old fashion looking vacuums that "suck-up" REALLY well. The vacuums are not the most attractive looking / cool styles but they REALLY work w/ bags too! I bought a Sanitaire from him
go in with your current vacuum and see a demonstration of the difference between the two simply....AMAZING

I second Steve Black and the Sanitaire. I have had mine for 15 years or so with 3 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 lizards.

I second the Hoover Windtunnel vacuum. We've had ours for 6 years and it has been great. It was around $200 at the time. I don't know how much they are now. I use it on all floor types: carpet, tile, vinyl, wood (it has a feature where you can turn off the brush so the wood doesn't get scratched). It also has a small vacuum attachment for the stairs and it works great. I love it.

K.,
I have a Kirby which is HEAVY. But it has a great motor. It was expensive too.

On the demos any of them will do for you.... watch them carefully... they usually don't run the machine the same way you would at home. They'll say something like "for demo purposes we don't use the bag so we can show you how much is sucked up by placing this filter here..."

The bags do slow down the "suck up" amount. So doing a demo w/o a bag is more impressive.

But the Kirby still works very well, but I don't like vaccuuming because it's so heavy. Maybe I'll try the Oreck like the other poster suggested.
