My question is, has anyone ever used a boppy as a pillow for thier baby. My little man is 2 months of age, and has been placed on cereal in each bottle to help keep his food down. I have noticed that when I put my son in the middle of his boppy, to where he is using it for a pillow, he sleeps better. He isnt up very high, but its enough to help him sleep. But is it safe to use all night, he doesnt roll as he is only two months.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well thankyou everyone for your help. Last night hubby and I were talking and we just cant do the boppy in the crib. But I have learned that as long as he is proped up for an hour, then put to bed, he is fine. So I use the boppy out here on the couch let him sleep an hour then move him to bed. Or if he doesnt want the boppy I have one of those rainforest swings, (gotta love family for that one) well since it swings side to side or front to back, I put the swing to where it swings side to side and let him swing in that for an hour or until I'm ready for bed, and he is just fine until he wakes up hungry. This also works for us at nap time also, once again thankyou all for your help.

I LOVED using the boppy in my baby's cradle! I used it until she started kicking herself up so she was arching her back over the top of it. My doctor said it would be ok as long as she was placed some how in it so it wouldn't end up covering her face some how.
But yeah, it helped a TON with getting my baby to sleep through the night!!

Sounds like to me he has reflux which needs medication at this young age to help relieve the symptoms. My daughter had it as infant until she was 6 mos. old.
I am not sure what the cereal in the bottle is helping??? If he is spitting up that is another sign of reflux and his digestive system is way too young to have cereal yet.
If he is feeling better propped up and cannot get out of it then I say it is not a big deal, with reflux being upright feels better for the baby.
I would talk to your Pediatrician about the cereal though as that does not sound right and see if it could be reflux.
Two months is very young to have cereal yet.

I have a generic one with an attached holster that wraps through the legs and then velcros in place so the baby doesn't slide down. That might be something that would work for your baby to sleep in as it would keep him in place.

We don't use the Boppy in the crib but we did put some folded towels under his mattress to elevate a little. He seemed to help his reflux and his bed was elevated in the NICU. The folded towels give me more piece of mind I am following the "Rules" and my son is happier.

Honestly I was really nervous to use my boppy as a pillow for my baby but she ended up getting a cold and to help her breathe I propped her up using the boppy. One thing that worked really well is I put the boppy in the crib and then covered it with one of her blankes. That way the shape was still there and I could conform it around her and it prevented her from sliding down.

It ended up working really well and she was able to sleep better.

I hope this helps. My little girl is 3 months old.

You can put a folded towel or blanket UNDER THE MATTRESS to make it come up at about a 30 degree angle on one side.

We just let my daughter sleep in her swing or bouncy chair. Doc said it was OK. Just make sure he doesn't always sleep with his head the same way (use a rolled up towel to position him) or he might get a flat spot on his head.

I have!!! My baby is also two months old and for a long time that is the only way I could get him to sleep for a couple hours at night. Now we are trying to wean off of it so he gets used to sleeping normally. The only problem I had was when he did start waking up and moving he scooted himself down into the middle of the pillow. But by then he was awake enough wanting to eat that I wasn't worried about anything. Go ahead and do what helps calm that little one down so you can get some rest. They also say being elevated like that helps reduce sids.

i would be nervous to use the bobby all night because he could slouch into another position. two of my kids have had reflux. my youngest doesn't move much in her sleep, so i've been able to elevate one end of her mattress with a pillow or two underneath it. when she was tiny like yours i rolled up a larger blanket and put it in a U shape around her feet and sides to keep her from sliding down. my oldest son moves around a lot in his sleep and i would find him at the bottom of the slanted mattress in weird positions, even when i used the rolled up blanket. so i had to stop that with him and ended up either putting him to sleep in his bouncer (strapped in because he was so squirmy) or in a baby carrier thing i had that was like an infant car seat but it didn't attach to any base. i don't know where you would find one now. i got mine at a yard sale. but i liked it a lot because the angles were not as steep as a car seat. good luck and i hope this is a short term thing for you!

Hi B.,

I know the recommendation is not to use the Boppy as a sleeper, but I ended up doing it out of desperation to get my youngest to sleep for longer periods. Worked like a charm with the swaddle but I stopped using it once she started moving around more. If you're worried about safety, they do make upright sleepers that are approved for that use.

Good luck!

I think the unsafe part is that you don't know when your son will start to roll. Plus he can slide down during the night and possibly turn his face into the pillow. Have you tried a crib positioner? You can get ones that will help elevate him and that have bolsters that go under his arms to keep him from sliding down.

Good luck!

Hi! There is a tag attatched to the Boppy pillow that says "Do not use this pillow for sleep" So I wouldn't.

probably not really safe. Pillows and soft objects in the cribs are huge sids risks. You could try putting something under the sheet or under the mattress to incline one end of the bed. It's rough... they sleep better elevated, but its hard to find something safe to elevate them with. Good luck!

You can also try a 2X4 under two of the legs to provide a bit of an incline.

I loved using my boppy to elevate my baby. The other way is to put a rolled up blanket under the matress to elevate them that way and I went to lowes and picked up some pavers...3 for each side so that I could control how high the side of the crib got. That worked well too if you are worried about having something in the crib with the baby. I bought a crib wedge pillow once but that didn't seem to be enough of an angle. Good luck

I would very scared to use the Boppy in the crib!!! Even in he is not rolling, he could simply slide down and end up with his face under the edge of the pillow! I would be much more comfortable with the many suggestions of putting something UNDER the mattress to elevate it - that makes sure that there are still no soft surfaced or pockets that he could get his face stuck in. He's still too young to wake himself up and reposition if he was to get his face stuck somewhere.

I hope I don't sound too strong against it - but I'm a big safety person, and can't stand the thought of anything that could put our beautiful little ones in danger that they don't need to be in. As you know with your older ones already, they will find enough ways to put themselves in danger as they grow and explore:)
Good luck!

We've done it for reflux and for colds with no problem. Check with your doctor, though. A wedge with a sleep positioner is probably safer. Anytime you put a pillow type thing in, it is against SIDS recommendations. Like I said though, we've done it at times with all three of ours. Our second slept on a regular pillow on occasion, too. Congratulations on your new addition! Have you tried reflux meds? There pretty safe for short term and worked well for two of our 3. GL!

You can get the same effect by placing a 2-by-4 or some other piece under one end of the crib. We did this for about 6 months with our son who seemed to sleep much better propped up slightly.
