My daughter is expecting idential twin boys in June...they'll probably come sooner. Her aunts are throwing her a shower and she is hoping to get most of the bigger things she needs like a double stroller, car seats, swings, etc. We have both looked at places like "Once Upon a Child" etc. but haven't found double anything that is in good enough condition. Anybody know other places to find good condition, used things at a good price? I am wanting a double stroller and carry and play type things for myself for when I am helping watch the boys at my house but neither of us can afford a lot. This is their first pregnancy and twins were really unexpected. Any resourses would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for all the input. My daughter is going to check out a local Mom of Twins group for support and help in finding what they need. I really appreciate all the good lucks and help.

Hi J., Congrats on the upcoming grandbabies! I would keep my eye on craigslist, they always have things like that. Good luck to you!

I am pregnant with twins and grew up with brothers that were twins. One of the things my mom told me was to not get two cribs. She said (and most people that I have talked with) say that twins prefer (and it is healthier) to sleep together.

I have found some good things on Craig's list. I have found that a lot of twin mom's like to sell their "twin stuff" off at good prices (although they are selling twice as much!). I also try to remember that just because they are twins, doesn't necessarily mean I will need two of everything (I already have 4 kids). I know that I wanted my kids to be "swing kids", but not a one of them were. Just some things I am trying to keep in mind.

Ebay is another place that you might check as well. Both Ebay and Craig's list are great, especially if you are not in a hurry.

I am a mother of boy/girl (obviously not identical) twins. But with talking to moms of identical twins, one thing that I learned has helped them is that not everything has to match. Sometimes it is cute to have them in matching outfits or carseats, but for the most part, just put them in whatever. And definitely keep an eye on craigslist. Kids grow out of stuff so fast that some of the things that people have for sale on there is barely used.

I don't know if they have this here or not but I belonged to a twins group in Ohio. There is no better place to get used twin items than from other moms who have twins (or other multiples). Every year we would have a public sale to sell all our stuff. You might want to check and see if there are any moms of multiples groups in your area. I was thinking that there was one in Chandler. They would be able to help you. These groups are also a great support for dealing with all aspects of raising multiples ie major lack of sleep, packing to go anywhere, being able to go anywhere, dealing with all the people who want to stop and ask you a million questions when you are in a big hurry, etc. I had a singleton first and then my twins. There is no comparison.
Good Luck and enjoy those babies. They will bring much joy.

I just saw that someone else said that you did not need two cribs because twins like to be together. This might work for you because the boys are identical but my girls did not want to be together AT ALL. Well one did and one didn't so it still did not work. But we did start them out in two pack-n-plays which we put at the end of our bed and then moved them into the cribs. I already had one crib from my son and was able to find another similar one at a garage sale. Not a perfect match but close.

Hi J.!
My suggestion to you would be to contact your local mothers multiples group. There are 2 near Chandler: one in Gilbert and one based in Tempe. I am a member of the Gilbert group. Both groups have semi-annual yard sales in which the members are allowed to shop before the sales are open to the public. I would highly recommend your daughter becoming a member -- aside from the yard sale the benefits are many. I joined when my twins were a year old. I wish I had joined when I was pregnant. I would have saved myself a lot of money and learned a lot of multiple mom "tricks" to make each day a little easier.
My group's site: www.busybeemom.tripod.com. Good luck!

Have her check out your local Mothers of Multiples groups. I know there's one in Tempe or Chandler. The Ahwatukee Foothills News often has a classified ad for the group. They have these yard sales where other multiple moms are selling their stuff and acquiring other stuff. I know they give first dibs to members, then open it to the public. Perhaps if she joins right away, they will allow her and you in the first bunch. I have no clue when their next sale is, but they can tell you. Plus, by networking there, I'm sure you'll find some moms looking to get rid of their outgrown things.

I don't know if you need cribs, but I saw two identical white cribs on Craigslist in Ahwatukee. They looked in good condition. Check it out.

Hi J.!

Congrats on the twin grandbabies ;) I have twin boys myself - they are wonderful! I have a lot of things that I have gotten rid of now that the boys are 16 months. However, I do have a lot of clothes, a baby carrier for twins, an extra stroller - a tandem one. Also - if you give me your address I can post a note on my Moms of Multiples blog that there is a new mommy in need of twin stuff. They are great about stuff like that. You may want to encourage your daughter to join, it really is a great network :) If the Busy Bees Moms of Multiples.

Congrats! What a blessing.

As others have suggested I would check craigslist.org frequently for items you need. I bought and sold lots of baby items on there for my kids.

I would also check out freecycle.org - it's a recycling community where people post things they want and would like to give away. You can sign up in an area near your home so you aren't driving across town to pick things up. There is usually a lot of baby related items on there.
