Tilted Uterus - Murrieta,CA

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my doctor mentioned that my uterus is tilted. She said that it isn't a huge health concern, and that I shouldn't worry about it. That was over 3 years ago now. My husband and I are currently trying to get pregnant with our second, and we are having problems. We have been trying for over 6 months now with no success. We are very healthy people (no weight/health issues, low stress,OB checkup is good, and blood tests are good). So, I am wondering if the tilted uterus is causing the problem. I have read that a tilted uterus can cause fertility issues with some women, but there isn't a lot of research out there. I am wondering if anyone else out there has this condition, and were there any fertility issues associated with it? Also, are there any tips, or things that I should do differently, to get pregnant having a tilited uterus? Thanks.

-Just so everyone knows, I have the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," by Weschler. I have read it more than once, and I have been an avid charter for a while now (I also use OPK"s to confirm). I can pinpoint my ovulation within hours. So, I am pretty confident in that regard. Thanks :) Also, we are enjoying ourselves, and we have let sufficient time pass before we started buckling down and actually "trying," as compared to just "seeing what happens." So please do not include comments such as: "relax," "let things happen," "enjoy yourselves," becuase we really are. These types of comments are just hurtful. I would really appreciate it if all responses in this thread were kept informative rather than emotional. Thank you:)

with my tilted uterus i found that when i lay on my back with a large pillow under my hips and lying in that position for about 30 minutes after we made love... i was able to get pregnant right away with my second daughter. don't know if you've tried this position before but it worked for us.
all the best,
S.

Hi, I also have a tilted uterus, the doctor explained that it is more difficult to get pregnant with this condition but I don't know why. From my experience it appears that both times I got pregnant was due to the position, either standing or with me on top. Best of luck to you!

I have a tilted uterus & got pregnant first try both times. I swear by this method: after sex, lay down & prop your legs up for at least half an hour.

A tilted uterus can indeed cause difficulty in becoming pregnant despite your getting pregnant before. Talk with your doctor and if you don't think you're being taken seriously, talk to a fertility specialist; they know that infertility issues can arise after previous pregnancies.

I am a mother of 4 children and am due with my 5th in August. I have always been told that I had a very tilted uterus. I was also told that it makes it a little harder to get pregnant. I found the only real difference has been that toward the early fetal growth my children tend to favor the right side. May not even be contributed to it.

I read your article and must tell you the first thing that came to mind for me was this.. You may be ready for another right now. However with children I have found they come when they are ready.... birth control or not. I am a huge example of this....Whatever the reason is you'll realize later why the timing worked out better for you. I had my 1st then 4 yrs later 2nd. 2yrs later 3rd. 4 yrs later 4th and now 1 and a half years later will have the next. They come when they are supposed to... With me I thought I was happy after 2. The others were surpises and the truth is I have found the gratitude in their timing. My first was not jealous of my 2nd. My 2nd and my 3rd are close enough to be very best friends. My 4th adds joy and no jealousy to any of them being 4 yrs younger and at this point in the game when I have this one my baby will have a playmate while the others will finally be in school full time. The bigger picture.....Good luck to you. Don't get too frustrated. I doubt there are any health issues it is just a matter of when the next one is supposed to join your wonderful family.

I also have a tilted uterus. It took me 2 months to concieve my 1st child and over a year to concieve the 2nd. I was working very hard and stressed when trying to concieve my daughter. The minute I stopped working, I got pregnant w/my 2nd.

Sometimes it takes longer to concieve the 2nd time around. You're working harder, taking care of a little one etc.

You might want to consider having your hormones checked.

Accupuncture and chinese medicine can also address fertilty. My chinese accupunturist cured me of polycystic ovarian syndrome. It took her 2 years and I had to drink some pretty disgusting herbs, but it was better than taking Clomid. Clomid was the only thing hat my obgyn had to offer.

Before accupuncture and herbal medicine, I was hemorraging 3-4 times a year. Very painful. I simply wasn't dropping any eggs, but building up a lining.

I also used a fertility monitor w/the 2nd. The kind that you pee on the stick and put the stick into a machine that reads it. Can't remember the name.

"Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" is a great book written by an obgyn. I reccommend it highly. She covers fertility and all sorts of other issues.

I have heard this before, but it has never caused a problem. Many times pregnancy happens when you least expect it. Don't try so hard and you will become pregnant. Relax and enjoy the moment, allow things to take its course. You will have a second child when your body clock says it is time. I say this because I had two children one week to the year apart, and it was very hard to keep up with two children when they reached the "terrible twos" So just relax. Good Luck!

I myself have been told I have a tilted uterus. I did take a while for me to get pregnant the first time. The second time it happened right away for me.To my suprise (and my husbands!)We now have twin fraternal boys! I know this sounds strange but I was told after intercourse to keeps your legs together and pointed straight up in the air after. It kind of makes sense if you think about it. Good luck!

A tilted uterus is fairly common and it may be impeding your ability to get pregnant. Note I didn't say preventing. A quick, easy inexpensive fix is a chiropractic adjustment. I would certainly try it since it doesn't involve any pharmaceuticals and it won't harm you in any way. If that doesn't make a difference consider acupuncture.

Just wanted echo what everyone else has already said. My OB has assured me that a tilted uterus does not cause fertility problems. My first took six months, which they don't consider a fertility problem until after a year. My second was a surprise. Sadly, we lost our second at 20 weeks, but again I was told that my tilted uterus had nothing to do with it.

I want to recommend a FABULOUS book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. We tried to get pregnant for 9 months and I read this book and followed her advice and within 3 months I was able to get pregnant with my son. She speaks of some fertility issues - SUPER interesting.

Hi,
I have a posterior horizonal uterus...my guess is that is a tilted uterus. I have three sons. My first I conceived when we were not planning on a child because my husband was still working on a master degree. The second, we tried and tried for over a year before I became pregnant because I really wanted another child. My third, we had decided that two were a handful and God sent this son after the others were in school. I think often when you are trying, you are uptight and it although you do not like it, I really think that trying too hard can cause you more difficulty conceiving. It is not hurtful, just what I feel after I had my three children from my experience. Every child is a gift from God and you can try to manipulate the physical aspects, God does the rest:)
I wish you blessing. Enjoy your beautiful daughter and I hope God sends you another blessing.

Just so you really know you are not alone.. I also have a tilted uterus. It took us a while to get pregnant the first time, but no time at all the second. I know you know this, but pay attention to your cycle. I learned that for me, I am most fertile immediately after my period ends, which is a bit earlier than the books suggest. Once we figured that out, we got pregnant 3 times in a flash. (I also did the legs up thing, who knows what will work!) Have fun with the process and don't stress out, yet! :)

I do not think it is the tilted uterus. Mine is tilted, and I got pregnant both times the first or second month trying, and my mom's is tilted and she had six pregnancies. I would use an ovulation kit in addition to the book to confirm that you are observing the mucous and temps correctly. Good Luck!!!

I don't know much about the tilted uterus, but I know that my mom has a tilted uterus and it did not affect her fertility at all. She had 7 babies (3 of those were conceived while she was breastfeeding). But I don't know if she is an exception. I would be happy to ask her more about it and find out what she knows, if you are interested.

Good luck!
