Haha...no. Her "perfect child" will likely be an insufferable adult. I typically don't pay attention to people like that, unless I want a good laugh!!

I think you are talking about the journalist who wrote the book Bringing Up Bebe, and she absolutely does NOT claim to have raised the perfect child!
From reading an interview with the author I gather the book is simply her observations and opinions on the differences between French and North American parenting practices, not much different than that book Tiger Mother, which also contrasted very different cultural parenting styles.
Personally I LIKE reading about how different cultures do things, parenting or otherwise. It's interesting, sometimes funny and we can learn a lot from each other.

Sorry but no, I have the perfect child. :p

Honestly what a stupid comment, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. I have pretty good kids, other people seem to like them, still not perfect, ya know?

This isn't that stupid French woman that couldn't handle a Chinese woman having a book saying she knows how to raise kids so she wrote a book, is it?

Honestly, I think a lot of cultures most likely have their strong points and weak points with regard to parenting.
The idea that parents probably shouldn't make their kids their entire universe s something "foreign" to American parents, generally. Maybe we should take a cue from the French there.
In reality, the only French woman that I know, is a tad obsessive about her child not getting fat, and feeds her things like squash soup all the time. And overall, I'm not THAT impressed with her parenting. But still--we can't generalize about "all French mothers" any more than we can about "all American mothers", right. Quite a range most likely....

And there is no such thing as a "perfect child"!

My kids are perfect and so is my little granddaughter.... just sayin' :)

EVERYONE has the "perfect" child dont you know?! That's why no kids ever back talk, throw things, hit, fling food or completely drive us crazy!

And that is also why this board is ONLY for talking about birth control measures and politics!

Not this particular case. But a week or so ago, the French women have come to be called the new Asain "tiger mothers" in a media storm b/c of the recent book "Bringing up Bebe".

I read the links Momma L. provided and you know what? This is exactly how I was raised. Am I perfect? No way and like someone else said, beauty/perfection is in the eye of the beholder. I think in this country we call this way of raising a child considered old school. I pretty much raise my kids the same way but I sure as heck wouldn't be going around saying my kids are perfect....yeah right!

Oh puhlease. Be glad you fell asleep. This sounds as bad as that book regarding French women never being fat. Well, kinda true, but let's just embrace ourselves and our children for who we are!

In my opinion that's what we should all think about our children. Who else is going to think that about you if your mom doesn't? I think my children are perfect. That doesn't mean they (or I) shouldn't improve, and don't pi$$ me off and do wrong things occasionally, but in my eyes, seriously, they are "perfect," speaking from a mother's love point of view.

I wish I'd seen that though, it makes me want to find the flaws in her kid.
