Hi, I am the mother of a three month old and wondered when you all switched from a slow flow to a medium flow nipple? Also, what bottles and nipples have you found that work the best for an exclusively formula fed baby?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone - your responses have been really helpful... I want feeding to be enjoyable for her and sometimes its not because of the bottle/nipple issues and gas. I think these will be good improvements.

I nurse and bottle feed. So switching from one to the other, I have found that Nuk Orthodontic is the best! It is the most like the breast then any other bottle I have ever used. Also, I personally would wait until my baby is six months old, but it doesn't mean you can't try a medium flow nipple with your baby and see how she does. Good Luck!

My daughter is 5 months old and I switched her to medium flow about a month ago. It's a little difficult at first for them to get used to it, but now she's doing great. My sons were about the same age, 4 months when I switched them.

As far as bottles and nipples? I just use the Parents Choice brand. I get them at Walmart.

I hope this helps!

Hi there! What I did was just watch my daughter's behaviors while suckling. There came a time when she was getting frustrated a little more each time... seemed like she had to suck harder. I also tried the new nipple, and the first time, she seemed to almost choke a little on the contents, so I went back to the slow flow for a while! Unfortunately, it is just a bit of guess and check.

The "MAM" baby bottles rock. I love them. AND, they are not made of those harmful plastics and do not have BPA's in them which can leach into our children's bodies and cause harm. They have them at Amazon.com. Here is the link:

I have had no problems with them whatsoever... I transitioned my baby to this (using formula) from breastfeeding. He had no problem transitioning and took to it with no problem. The bottles also cause no gas problems or air bubbles like many others. I really recommend it.

As far as switching nipple flow... you can kind of tell from the way your baby feeds... each baby is different and suckles differently. Just try.

Hope this helps!

We switched my son from slow to faster flow nipples when he seemed frustrated that he wasn't getting food fast enough. I breastfed him exclusively for 5 months and gave breastmilk in a bottle when needed. If you're happy with the bottles you're using, then just switch nipples. We used the soothie bottles/nipples because my son used a soothie pacifier at the beginning - so it made the most sense for us.

I would try a faster flow nipple and if your daughter has a hard time with swallowing fast enough, then she's probably not ready for it.

My daughter is now 2 but was bottle feed since 4 days old. I wasn't able to breastfeed so I was told that the VentAire Natural Shape was the best. They were. I had her on the stage 2 nipple from a few days after I started using them. She never seemed as if she was getting what she wanted. After I switched she was more satisfied. She never got gas or fussy. Also never seemed to have to burp due to the fact she didn't get the air. I recommended them to other mothers and they loved them too. They also make a skinny bottle which the nipple is smaller. But she preferred the bigger platform on the nipple. Good luck!

My children switched real early because they were such big eaters. I would say as soon as you feel your baby isn't getting enough formula or is working to hard for it. The best bottle I have ever used was the advent bottle!!!
