Swimming Suit for Curvy Women

I am in need of a new swimming suit for this summer. I am nursing and very curvy (36G) and I am having a hard time finding a nice swimming suit. The swimming suit doesn't need to be a nursing suit as I think I could just pull the straps down. My size is very hard to find in the first place, because if the suit is big enough around my chest it is too big in the stomach area. I am only 28 years old and would like to wear something that would not make me look older than I am. However, I'll be wearing the suit to take my kids swimming so I obviously don't want to be popping out of the suit if you know what I mean?!? I may end up buying a bigger size and then trying to take it in, but I am not great with a sewing machine. I found one website that had nice swimming suits in my size but they were $100. Am I just going to have to pay that much for a swimming suit?!?! Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the help! I ended up getting a swimming suit from Land's End. I used some discount codes and got it delivered to me for under $60! I loved that they had the suit size and then the bra size seperate. I was able to use my measurements to find a suit that fits perfectly! The suit has great support in the chest region and I has held up great so far!

I also would recommend lands ends for a two piece tankini type suit. they have several top styles and several bottom styles to choose from and you can get them in different sizes.

I know this answer will sound snobby...so read it with a grain of salt! In my opinion, the suits I've gotten that have been less expensive, ESPECIALLY ones I got for when I was nursing that got a lot of "hard" use, that I required to hold up heavy breasts, didn't last well or support well if they were cheaper (under 60 or so). If you are not normally a G, and just want a suit to fit for when you're nursing, go ahead and buy something cheaper. If you are normally a bigger busted woman and want it to last a few years, I would suggest finding something closer to the 100$ and planning to take good care of it. I have also heard good things about Lands End and LL Bean suits.

Have you tried looking at seperates where you can buy different sized top/bottom?

At walmart the other day I saw some great plus size suits. They were $30.

Land's End suits can be found at Sears and you can buy different size tops and bottoms. They're classic and nice--not too matronly or anything.

What about getting a two piece suit. Then you can buy different sizes. I am not huge in my chest, but since I am nursing as well, they are quite a lot larger than they once were. I bought a nice tankini from Target this year, and was able to get the top and bottom in a different size. I will be wearing it with shorts though until i feel thin enough to wear the bottoms..hehe!
Good luck, I know how hard it is to find clothing and stuff when you are an uncommon size.

I see Target has some cute one pieces out- check them out I think they were in the 30 to 40 dollar range- I could be wrong but they looked good.

athleta.com sells tops and bottom separate so you can get the right fit. I spent about $80 altogether for a suit but it is sturdy. They have a good return policy. I always tended to go cheap in suit before this and those suits stretched and wore out quickly.

Check out landsend.com. I'm not sure about their prices though...If you get on their email list they would probably send coupons and/or let you know about sales.
Good luck!!

I am very curvy also, and have opted to go the separates route. I buy a top that fits my bust, and then have the sides taken in around the stomach area so it doesn't look like I'm wearing a tent with bottoms. I've never spent more than $60 on the whole process (top, bottoms, and alterations). I go to Torrid or Sears, and sometimes even to Lane Bryant to find the top, and find a matching bottom wherever I can.
Good luck!

I'm right there with you. The exact same size! Not to mention exact same age. Wow no one is like me. Anyways. I just get a swimsuit everywhere and smash and mash into one and have cleavage hanging out like I'm a playboy bunny. I don't have a tummy, but I do have extra skin, and no butt.

Everyone tells me to get one at bravisimo.com but again that is very expensive for a suit. Plus you have to ship it in from the UK. So I'm very interested in your answers. It impossible to find someone who has such a small rib cage circumfrance and very big breast. Now if I was 46 around I would be fine. Sad eh. But you already know that. So I'll be watching your answers. I'm hoping it's not alot of bravisimo. Sure they were great for bra's the once I got them but my god they were expensive!

I also recommend Lands End. They may not have suits up to a G cup, but the cup sizes run VERY LARGE. The suit ran large also. By the measurements they gave, I needed a 14 suit, with a 36 DD cup (my bra size.) It was too big all around. I found that a 12 fit perfectly. As for the cup size, I had to go down to a 36 C for a proper fit. Therefore, I would not rule them out if they don't have cup sizes up to G. You might find that a DD in their suits would fit. And they are a little pricey, but not $100, and they are good quality, heavy fabric (= good control), and reasonably styled. Not too "mature" but certainly respectable. :) Also, not that this will do you much good now, but the suits go on sale for pennies on the dollar late in the season. If you find one you really like, you might get an extra at the end of the season... I got mine way at the end of the season, and I think I paid less than $20 for $70+ suits...

Oh, one more thing, if you buy one online and get it home and it's the wrong size and you want to try another size, they don't charge you shipping on the second item! And you can make your returns at any Sears store, if you have one local. I thought that was particularly cool, especially in light of the fact that I had to return mine twice to get the right size!
