Still Looking for a Church Home

Hi Moms -

We are still looking for a church home in the Olathe area. I have tried all of the wonderful suggestions you have given me; they were all great places, but nothing seemed to quite fit. We come from a Baptist background, but not the old stodgy type; we like Baptist churches that are contemporary. It is amazing that we just can't seem to find the right fit here. If anyone has any other suggestions, I am all ears. We would like a smaller church, rather than one of the big mega-churches that seem to be so popular here. Also, if they have small groups, that is a big plus. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi C.! We attend Olathe Life Fellowship at Olathe South HS. We've been going for about 4 years, thought about a change, but we feel like we're home. Send me an email if you are thinking about going and I would be glad to introduce you around. The Kid's Life program is awesome, and the pastors are great! The music is great too! D.

I know this isn't a little church and someone may have suggested it earlier but the church I go to is Indian Creek Community Church. They are a non-denominational church and everyone is welcome. The worship and messages are very contemporary and geared towards improving your life not just worshipping God (although a lot of that is included as well). There are tons of small groups that you can become a part of as well as classes to take, bible study groups, men's ministries, women's ministries, etc.

I also want to tell you about a FUN opportunity coming up. On March 8, from 10AM to 1PM we are having Spring Fest. This is a great event to bring your kids for an Easter Egg hunt as well as to play games, have a bite to eat, listen to some music and just have FUN! It is held at Frontier Park on Indian Creek Parkway, kind of back behind the east library off of Blackbob. Everything is FREE (except the food). They will also be giving away Easter Baskets so make sure you register for those giveaways when you arive.

The website for the church is http://www.indiancreek.org/

If you haven't tried this one yet, just give it a couple of visits. I think you will like it!

Sincerely,

N. Govero

Hi, you sound like me a few years ago. We have joined Lenexa Baptist Church. Obviously it's in Lenexa, not Olathe but it is a great church. I was scared of the large churches as well, they are just so easy to get lost in etc... But, LBC has great programs to get involved in smaller groups, for example our Sunday School class is great and they focus on having dinner groups and bible studies and park picnics etc... I recently have gotten involved in the girls night out bunko night once a month and love it. I would really suggest checking it out. If you would like to meet somebody here some Sunday so you arne't "wandering" I would be happy to meet you there. I have 2 little ones 2 1/2 and 1 so your 3 year old would be in my oldest sons, it's a great class :). Well if that perks your intest at all you can check out their web-site at www.lenexabaptist.com if you like the contemporary services I would suggest the Venue Service it's contemporary and very friendly. I hope this helps....

Hi C.,

I'm not sure if you have visited Christ Community Church yet?
The website is ccefc.org. The address is 20600 W. 119th Street. It isn't Baptist but I truly would say to give it a try because I attend the sister church in Leawood and it's a true spiritual blessing. Hope you feel at home soon! Play and pray hard,

We recently started attending Kaw Prairie Community Church. I don't think it has a Baptist background but it is interdenominational. It is relatively small and is just a couple of years old. It has the contemporary worship and small groups you are looking for. It is meeting just west of K-7 on Prairie Star Parkway (95th St). We like it so far and feel that the people there are really genuine. There website is www.kawprairie.org Good Luck in your search.

Have you tried Faith Baptist in Olathe? Our family has friends that attend that church. We have never been so not sure of the style. It is medium sized I would say. Not mega by any means. We attend Ocheltree Baptist in Spring Hill which is about 15 minutes from Olathe. We have a few couples that come from Olathe to our church. You are more then welcome to come visit. Not sure that you want to drive that far. We have a very good time at church. We do however sing out of hymnals. I know that you said you like more contemporary. We do have Sunday School at 9:45 and service at 11:00. There are two ss classes. One for the "older" couples and one for the "younger". ha! We have church suppers and fellowships often, our church also has an AWANA program for kids 3(potty trained) to 6th grade.
I wish you luck on finding a church home. i know it can be frustrating. Dont give up...one will seem to fit. God Bless!

Our church that we love is Westside Family Church off of 83rd street and K7. They have an awesome children's program, the music is rockin and the teaching pastors that we have come are great. Everyone is so friendly and it is just a great place to fit in. The services are 830, 1000, 1130am, and The well which has even more contemporary music is at 500pm, so you have a lot of options.

There is a really small church that we attend that is called The Morse Church. It is located between 159th & 151st on Quivera. The building is a one room building that was built back in the 1800s. It is a historical site. It is a covenant church but all denominations attend. It has a more contemporary feel. And the small groups are amazing especially if you consider how small the congregation is (about 75 households attend) we have a very high number of people in small groups. We are getting ready to have several small groups start up again here in the spring. It's very much a church family. You should come and check it out sometime! What we may lack in facilites we more than make up for in fellowship!

www.morsechurch.org (this is in the process of being updated)

8:45 AM - Traditional hymns and songs; relevant talks; Holy Communion.
(includes care for young children)
10:00 AM - Music in contemporary arrangements; relevant talks; Holy Communion. (includes care for young children)

Hi C.,
I know you're in Olathe, but it would be well worth the drive to come visit New Life Community church in Gardner. We have 2 services on Sunday and small life group meetings throughout the week. The church is non-denominational and focuses on delivering Christ's word and following Him. If you like a small feel the 08:30 service is the right one for you. The website is www.nlcc.cc and feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Even if you go somewhere else I pray that you'll find a church home that nurishes you completely. :-}

I'm not sure if you will find us "stodgy" or not, but we love the Lord and each other. We are more like a family than a church. We have a wonderful age range of folks including about 50 kids! We do sing the old hymns and preach out of the KJV Bible. Our congregation runs about 150-170. We are located on Shawnee Mission Parkway and Monticello Road if you are interested. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions our church number is ###-###-####.

Hi C.,

Have you checked out Rolling Hills Presyterian Church (94th and Nall - I live in Olathe too, worth the drive)? Small and extremely family oriented (at ALL ages). It has been a blessing for our whole family (my husband is Catholic - he really likes it too). Please call me if you want to talk.

I am invloved in the activities that I can do and NEVER feel pressure to do more. It is a church that understands - no feelings of guilt. My kids LOVE it and that is huge. We do the summer day camp - it is a blast. I have just as much fun as my kids. We also do the summer school - I volunteer for most of these as I teach and have the time. I love all that this church does... I know that I am suppose to serve the church; but in doing what I can/when I can, it serves me and my family more than I would ever expect. Would love to chat and have you come visit my church family... Blessings, S.

hi C.! we are very involved at our church- Christ Community Evangelical Free Church, Olathe. the original campus is in leawood and we just had our one year celebration of the olathe campus. we are one church in two locations. we bought a small baptist church that was unable to stay alive, in west olathe. it is off woodland and 119th. you can check out the website at www.ccefc.org

because it is newer, it is smaller and a really exciting place to be involved. it is full of young families with young children and very easy to meet new people. i teach the pre-school class first service and this sunday we had 11 kiddos. we also co-lead a community group, that is going through a john piper dvd series. my daughter is almost 4, which is the avg. age of the kids in our group. i'd love to meet you and your family on sunday if you'd like to try it out. feel free to e-mail me if you have more questions!

I am new so don't know what suggestions you've received but our church (Christ Community) in Leawood has a relatively new branch in the west Olathe area. It is an Evangelical Free church but we are also from a Baptist background and we love it. I am not sure about the small groups yet but if they don't have them, they will soon. You can go to the web at ccefc.org and there will be a link for Olathe campus. The teaching and organization of the church is great, if you haven't tried it I hope you can. Let me know...

Hi C.,

Have you tried Olathe Life Fellowship? They have been around for about five years and they currently meet out of Olathe South High School every Sunday at 10:00. Check out their website. I was in the same boat as you, I grew up in a Presbyterian Church and wanted to find something that fit. I think this is a growing church that has a great group heading it up, down to earth and real. I have a 21 month old, we've only gone three times, with everyone being sick all the time this winter (!) so we can watch the service online if we are unable to go. I don't know where in Olathe you are, but check it out sometime.

I hope by now you have found a new church home, but if you are still looking- College Church is a wonderful church. It is a big church, but my husband and I are involved in a young families Sunday School Class (Legacy builders) and we love the close friendships we have built. I know attending large churches often seems lonely...but I think if you get involved with a small group you would enjoy the benefits of a large church...our children's group is wonderful!

Hi C.,
Not sure if tou're interested in something a bit more urban and/or 'edgy', but if you are, and are willing to drive a bit, try Jacob's Well (jacobswellchurch.org). Located in midtown. Very modern and packed with kids. There are some more contemporary Baptist churches in this area as well.. I'll see what I can find if the drive doesn't deter you.

I'm new here so not sure if this has already been suggsted, but I would urge you to come and visit Community Covenant Church at 87th & I-435. It looks big on the outside but you'll quickly find that it is so much like family. It's a wonderful Christ-centered congregation who will bend over backwards to include your family and involve you in the church family. I am from a Quaker background (Friends Church) and had a terrible time finding the right fit among all the mega churches. Community Covenant has been an answer to our prayers.

There is a church in Olathe called New Journey. I know of it because my son's mother in law attended there. I have been so impressed with the character of their church body. They have been so loving and supportive to her and her family while she was battling cancer. We attended her celebration funeral service there yesterday, and it was wonderful. It is a small church that obviously knows how to be God's hands and feet.

We love it there and have always fealt welcome. There are lots of things for kids throughout the year too which our kids enjoy.
