Still Looking for a Church Home...

My family (me, husband and 5 yr old son) moved to Ft Worth (near Beach and Basswood) about 8 months ago and are having the toughest time finding a church home. We've visited several area churches (Milestone, Fellowship at the Parks, Harvest to name a few), and have had pleasant experiences, but nothing feels like home. We come from a casual, non-denominational church- but I'm open to visiting other types. The biggest challenge I'm facing right now is that my son is reluctant to go to church. He has always been eager and happy to go in the past- but I know the stress of visiting and the lack of consistency is taking a toll on him. Any recommendations for churches to visit or advice on how to help my son through this? Thanks so much for your help!

What can I do next?

I was going to suggest Milestone, but I see you already visited us. :o) It is hard especially when you find a nice church but still don't feel it's the right one. Have you tried Keystone off of 1709? We went there for a while, but like you we didn't feel like it was home. It is a great church. Brandon (the pastor) is great and relatable, and their camp Keystone is really good. The kids love it. I haven't been since they moved into their building on 1709, so I can only imagine it got better. Check it out if you get a chance.

J.,

We were looking at moving to that area, but God had other plans for us. We did visit a church called Grace Community. It is a small church with lots of kids especially in that 2-8 year old range. My three year old loved it. We would have gone more if we had actually moved. We love our home church, though. We got married here and love the fellowship, but we have friends at Grace Community.

They are at Riverside and Basswood. 9:30 Sunday School, 10:30 Worship.

I hope you find a Church Family soon.

I feel your pain J.! We searched for 3 years before we finally settled. If you haven't tried it already, try Bear Creek Bible Church. It's at N. Tarrant, past Rufe Snow about a mile. We live pretty close to where you are - it's not too bad of a drive. It's a bible church and is casual and medium-sized. We've really enjoyed it. Their children's program is pretty good and there is a lot of consistency in the volunteers that work with the kids, so that helps them get comfortable. Feel free to let me know if you're going to make it and my hubby and I will show you around. The website is www.bcbc.org.

Good luck - it's an important, but frustrating, process!!

I started going to lifechurch.tv with my sister 4 months ago, and I love it! I live in Arlington, but make the drive to Fort Worth every Sunday to go. They have a great kids ministry and it's non-denominational. I was out of church for 10 years before going to this church. It's done wonders for my relationship with Christ and I learn so much every week!

We have been members of Pantego Bible Church (off I-30 at Eastchase) for 10 years. The great thing about this church is community...it starts in your area, as there are many 'home groups' to choose from. They meet weekly or bi-monthly in there homes. This is where you can feel like family! Then, several 'homegroups' meet together on Sunday mornings for 'Community Group' (aka sunday school). Then main service is where all the community groups come together as a larger group. Of course the first step would be to visit on Sunday morning at 9 or 10:45 service...you can get home group and community group info. in the lobby. If you would like more information, I could fill you in on some other 'features' of PBC. The churches main number is ###-###-####.

Hi, J.,
I recommend hanging in there in taking your son to church. Don't let him set the agenda on that very important part of your lives. We have a very casual and kid-friendly church and we are close to completing a state-of-the-art children's building that will cause kids to want to come to church. The way it is painted, kids know it is for them the minute you turn into the driveway. We have people coming from all areas because the church is so special. It is Celebration Fellowship at 1140 Morrison on the eastern edge of Fort Worth close to 820 and I-30. You can go to wwwthehospitalchurch.com to see a photo of the children's building and find out about the church. God does have a place for you and your family and He will show you where He wants you to be.

We live off Beach and Basswood as well. We go to church at Christ Chapel Bible Church it is non-denominational church off of I-30 and Montgomery. It takes us about 20 minutes to get there on Sunday they have a contemporary service at 9:15 and 5 p.m. Then a traditional one at 11:00 a.m. We started going there when we lived downtown. Once we moved we wanted to find a place close to home. We visited probably every church in our area, but never felt at home with any of them. We decided the drive was worthy it and stayed put. They have a wonderful children's ministry I think your son would love it. Best of luck.

I go to Riverwalk Fellowship, corner of Glenview and Denton Highway near 820N in Haltom City. I volunteer in the children's nursery a lot, and we have lots of boys in the 4-5 range. Our pastor hosts Praise In The Night on 91.7 KVTT at 11pm every night.
