Sore Throat and White Spots on Tonsils

Hello,
For about a week I feel like I've been fighting a cold. I have a mild sore throat and when I looked in the mirror I can see white spots on my tonsils. Only on my tonsils. I remember having this before and testing negative for strep.

Does anyone get this? I'm a little freaked out by it.

What can I do next?

That is tonsillitis. Strep has no signs like that.

It happens because pus is in the sinuses and drains into the ears then drains into the Eustachian tubes and they empty into the tonsil area.

Take half a dose of real real real Sudafed. This will make the drainage runnier and then it will go on down the throat like it normally does.

Just because you had it before and tested negative for strep doesn't mean you don't have strep this time. Please go to a doctor. And ask for a throat culture (which takes 3 days to come back with results), not a rapid test. The rapid tests have a high false-negative rate.

I get that. Tmi, but I get them just like you said only on the tonsils and they are big and if I sneeze one out they stink. I know other's that get them too. It's a sinus drainage thing and no biggie.

When I have had strep the spots are not just limited to my tonsils.

This does not sound like strep. The throat is very sore and one has a fever wigh strep.

When I was working several of us often had the symptoms you describe causing doctor visits for us. All reported tge diagnosis of a viral infection which must run it's course. Treat the symptoms if you want. Gargle with salt water. Use a sinus rinse. Take an OTC pain reliever. I increased my vitamin C and addded golden seal tea. Sometimes it was over in a couple of weeks. Other times it lingered for weeks. How long depends on the efficiency of the immune system.

Sounds like strep to me. I used to get it every single winter, usually around Christmas. Go get a swab done and see if it's indeed strep. Until then, gargle with very strong warm salt water. Like others said, just because you didn't test positive before doesn't mean that this isn't strep this time.

Hope you feel better soon!

Just because you didn't test positive for strep some other time doesn't mean that you don't have it now.

You need to go get a strep test done. If its negative, you probably have tonsillitis. And you need antibiotics.

Don't just leave this to fester. My sister got scarlett fever due to a wrong diagnosis and she was terribly sick. Her skin peeled SO BADLY that she looked like a zombie. And it affected her joints - she couldn't walk for several weeks.

Scarlet fever isn't as bad as rheumatic fever, but they're both scary. Don't delay. Get to the doc and get a strep test done.

Could be strep. I'd get tested. Take a pain reliever, warm drinks and gargle.

Sounds like strep. Go to the Doctor and get the throat swab done.

Start chewing Vitamin C - 1500 mg - to help your body fight off whatever it is you are fighting.

Gargle with WARM salt water - make sure you have your neck/throat extended as much as possible and get the slat water ON your tonsils...

Hope you are feeling better soon!!

My daughter gets this and it is strep in her case. She gets it so much she just gargles with hydrogen peroxide and goes on her way unless there is a fever involved.

So get the antibiotic from the doctor.

Hoping for a speedy recovery.

They could be tonsil stones. Do you ever cough up or sneeze up fowl smelling hard things? (gross I know) if you do those are more than likely tonsil stones.
