Shaving the Bikini Area

How do you do it? More specifically, how do you shave there without getting the little red, itchy bumps after? I feel like I have tried everything possible, disposable razor, electric razor, cheap razors, expensive razors, new ones, old ones, shave gel, shave cream, the razor with the built in shave bar, in the shower, in the bath, at the start of the shower/bath and at the end, and so on and so on, and I always get the same result, that dang razor burn.
I don't understand it, I don't have this problem with my legs or underarms, just my bikini area. Is it me, do I have a weird body? (I'm just trying to keep it trimmed up, not completely bald.) I have tried Nair before, but I smells so bad, and it really burned, so I would like to avoid that in the future if at all possible.
Is it just a hopeless cause? Is it possible to shave without getting razor burn?

So What Happened?

Waxing, DUH! I can't believe I didn't think of that. Now I feel dumb. For those of you that wax, how trim to you get it before going in for the initial waxing?

I had the same issue in my younger days. There was a product called 'bikini bare', and it came with a soothing finishing cream. It did not smell as bad (or irritate as much) as some of the other products on the market.

One of the benefits of having no significant relationship - and hell - being OLD is that I really do not have to worry about maintenance.

Best Luck!

I don't shave - at all - not pits, not legs, not pubes.
I use a beard trimmer to remove enough pubic hair that sex and flossing remain separate activities.
If there are some stray hairs peeking out of my swim suit, who cares?

I honestly tried shaving, but my skin is so sensitive. I get tiny red bumps too and its so damn itchy! lol My boyfriend likes when I shave, but I've explained to him what happens when I do. He tried it too.. and realized how bad it sucks. Now I use a beard trimmer to trim everything very short, and shave around the bikini area. I make sure to have a sharp razor and use coconut oil to shave, and soothe afterwards. Your body is not weird! I hear waxing is better.. but yeah no.. not ever going to happen with me. lol

I have shaved once or twice and regretted deeply both times. I use an electric lady shaver to shave my bikini line and the rest stays neat and trimmed. I am too big of a sissy to get my nether regions waxed. I do have sensitive skin too. It would be cool to be smooth as a surprise to my husband but you know not if it costs me so much pain lol. He did get his back waxed once and he said it was so painful and by the time the skin healed the hair was growing back and he said he couldn't imagine having the privates waxed. I guess as a couple we both are wusses.

Hardly anyone can get through this with razors.

You either get a bikini wax at a salon or esthetics place, or you can TRY using a depilatory cream that removes the hair below the surface of the skin (vs. a razor which takes it off at skin level so it grows back soon). Some people find these very irritating, as you did - but you could try another brand. Some women manage if they aren't taking off too much hair. There's also electrolysis but it's expensive.

Magic Shave. It's a depilatory cream for Black men for their heads. It's like a Brazilian in a bottle! Little stinky but not bad and doesn't burn. Get the lotion, not the powder, it's a pain to mix.

Waxing, if you can afford it, and handle the pain.

Laser treatment or wax it. Put the razor away hon.

I had the whole area lasered a few years ago and haven't had to touch it with a razor since.

After I shave, not wax, the topical ointment, bikini zone, works well. It has alcohol in it, burns a little at first but it works. It's at Wal-Mart. Good luck girl. You're not weird, it's a finicky area!

Personal trimmer here. Got into a discussion about this with some friends a few years ago and it was like I was the only one not in on the secret!

Don't think I could ever do waxing - I used to wax my eyebrows (back in the day of no kids and more disposable income) and that irritated the skin on my head enough that I can't imagine doing it to even more sensitive akin.

Wax for the bikini line is the answer for me. Hurts for a few minutes, but then hair free and no bumps for 6 weeks. I do have to occasionally exfoliate (gently) just on the waxed part to keep from getting ingrown hairs.

I have the exact same issue, and only in the bikini area. I can, however, shave the under part and the sides (the part that actually shows in a bikini) without the bumps, so I do that and just trim the rest of the front.

Waxing or sugaring is the way to go.

veet is like nair but a different smell and less burning...
i use an electric shaver for all my shaving needs. i don't bother with the bikini area though, razor burn is too much for an area that no one sees. i trim close to that area so i can wear a swimsuit or bikini shorts without stray hairs poking out

Do you shave in the direction of the hair growth or against the grain? In the bikini area, you MUST shave with the hair or you will get razor burn every time.
