Seeking Silverfish Solution

Does anyone know an effective, CHEAP, non-toxic way to get rid of silverfish? I seem to be finding more and more and can't stand these critters! I don't want to put anything out that could potentially harm my 13-month-old toddling son who gets into EVERYTHING. Also, I am on an extremely limited income. Thanks for any suggestions!

What can I do next?

I've used a company called "Rid Exterminators". This company is smaller...nice guys...reasonable prices...been doing it for years. What kind of roof do you have? It makes a difference if you keep having problems with them. It may be that you can keep them at bay with quarterly treatments. I just leave the house for a few hours after I have my house treated. It's worth it because I do not like bugs especially thinking of them crawling on me or my children while we sleep.

Hi R., about 6 years ago we were seeing a lot of silverfish in our house. My son was just an infant. I really didn't think too too much of it....until the brown recluse spiders started showing up EVERYWHERE (I mean I was shaking them out of the clothes HANGING IN MY CLOSET). Well, the exterminator told us that brown recluse eat silverfish and if the silverfish are around then the brown recluse most likely isn't far behind. We get the house sprayed every year now and especially this year when we started seeing the silverfish again. The guy had a special spray for silverfish (in a spray can) and I had them get up in my attic and set traps and spray there too. YUCK! I use Alternative Pest Control. Now, I must say, even though I've not seen silverfish since the house was treated, I still do see some baby spiders - but they haven't been recluse spiders. So anyway, I'm still debating on how happy I am with the treatment this time, just so you know. Good luck to you!

R., first of all, you are not the only one who has silverfish! Uggg. They are everywhere. If you have a wood shingled roof, be prepared to have them forever. No kidding. They live under the shingles and can unfortunately survive for up to 2 years on nothing...I've done research. We use ALLRID Pest Control-they have some natural based sprays that they spray under all the baseboards. Seems to work most of the time but I must admit, we've used some potent stuff way under the baseboards which truly does the job. About every 6 months, set off a few bug "bombs" in your attic when you will be away from your home for a couple days or on a vacation--this seems to also help. We've spoken with other exterminators and they say this is one way to control the population. Although the legitimate ones we've spoken with all tell us it's nearly impossible to get rid of them forever. One thing we've noticed is that you have to keep up a regular schedule of pest control if you want to see any difference. If you stop seeing them, by all means, don't stop your service...or they will be right back again in full force. UGGGG! Good luck!

Please let me know if you find a solution because I have the same problem. My husband wants me to call an exterminator today.
