I've just dove into searching out preschools for my son whose 3, 3 1/2 in June. Ideally I'm looking for a school that's play-based, or play-based with some structure. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

My son who is 4 goes to the Mountlake Terrace Pavillion's Kindergarten Readiness 3x a week. They have swimming on wednesdays and dance on fridays incorporated within the curriculum. There are field trips with parents and other fun activities. I know there is a co-op for younger ones and there is also a 2x a week preschool for 3 years old. Not a bad deal and it gives me some sort of a break since I have three little boys 5, 3, and 1. Hope that helps.

My three year old Amelia will be attending the Co-op preschool at Edmonds Community College this September. I did a tour a few weeks ago, feel free to contact them to set up a visit, see if you like it, we did! The M/T/W class is for 3-4 year olds and is $75 a month. They might not have any spots left, they only had one left when I signed up, so call quick!

Both of our kids are exactly the same age and I stay home with them, will need someone to trade babysitting with for our three month old girl (DOB 12/21/07) when the oldest (1/30/05) is at school, if you go there too maybe we can trade babysitting on our work days?! We live in Lynnwood too!

Hi S.!

My son is currently in the 2-day class at Crystal Springs Cooperative Preschool (CSPS) in Bothell and we absolutely love it! This is his second year there. CSPS is play-based and next year (3-day class) will have some structure to it. Sounds like your son would be in the 3-day class based on his age. Unfortunately, that class is already full for next school year but you are more than welcome to tour the school and perhaps get onto the waiting list. Visit www.crystalspringspreschool.org for more info, including access to our monthly newsletters where you can get a flavor of what CSPS is like. In the February 2008 newsletter, there is an article that explains the different classes and what to expect. I am part of the board this year as the 2-day class coordinator so I give a personal account of the 2-day class in each newsletter. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions, ____@____.com luck!

I just enrolled my daughter to the Harbour Point Montessori school. They have a incredible ciriculum! They have the kids in classes with 2 to 6 yr olds. I think this is great as the younger ones try hard to learn what the older ones are doing. It's pretty cheap in price too!

My child hasn't attended this school, but a friend's son did and really liked it: Pacific Preschool. I visited the school and it definitely appears to be play-based.
