My daughter went thru Early Intervention and is now going thru ESD in Washington County called Northwest Regional ###-###-####. Not sure if they can help you but it cannot hurt to try. Also I would contact your local United CP chapter to see what is available. I do most of my therapy thru OHSU with my daughter but not sure if insurance is an issue for you. OHSU CDRC is a wonderful program if you can utilize them. Good luck to you and feel free to contact me if you need to. My daughter also has mild CP and is doing wonderfully now.

By the sound of it you are connected to just Early Start, but are you connected to an Early Intervention Program? I have to sound naive here (really should have done a little poking around) in regard to Oregon's system, but I believe that all you need to do is contact your school districts Specialized Services program (maybe someone at Early Start can point you in the right direction?).

I worked in Washington State in EI for several years so I know their system better. However, what you are looking for is the Part B (3-5 yr old program) and this, I would imagine, would be similar to what he was getting in CA (sounds like he was in the Part C program for 0-3 yr olds). Did you move from CA with an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)? If so get your paperwork together...these plans are basically transferable, plus the old paperwork is very helpful for the next program and may even save with some of the testing and goal writing they might need to do for the new program.

I am not working in this field any longer, but after the years that I did, I know just how overwhelming and confusing the system can get...best of luck to you and yours!!!

I also have a son with mild CP issues. We use Shriner's Hospital. We love them and they are FREE. You do need to apply, but it is a formality, as they accept children with a CP diagnosis.

Their PT program is fabulous.

Regarding your little boy: I would recommend getting in touch with the Early Intervention Program in your local school district. My 4 yr old son has ASD and we work with the Multnomah County Early Intervention Program - not sure if Tigard is in Mult. County. Anyway they will do an assessment and make recommendations for preschool, OT, PT and Speech as necessary - either in your home or in a preschool or community setting. I can't help you with OT or PT, but I work for the Oregon Scottish Rite clinics. We are a non-profit speech and language clinic-- very, very little cost to families!
