You can mix ice cream with ice and put some fruit with it, and put it in the blender. V-8 juice is also nutritious. yogert, mixed with a little milk can be sipped through a straw. H. this helps.

A couple of years ago, Ensure had some program to give discounts on so much bought, or a free amount after so much bought. You might be able to contact the company and get them to send you something.

Also, I make an awesome potato soup and would be glad to share my recipe or mix it up myself. A friend of mine had cancer that spread from his esophagus, so he has had similar results to those of your husband. His wife expressed that he needed variety in his meal options and needed to gain weight, so I set out to make a batch of "fattening" potato soup. He also needed it to be "mildly" seasoned, so it wouldn't burn going in or down.

(I often use my cooking to help in healing...all natural products prepared in the biggest concentration of love.)

A lot of good suggestions here. Just remember that if you buy him a protein powder or other nutritional supplement, make sure it doesn't have fake sugar in it. (splenda, nutra-sweet, aspartame, ascufltame k, equal, SUCRALOSE) Those are potential cancer contributors and are in most of the ones you see. My husband and I found a natural whey protein powder that we really like that we blend with a frozen banana, rice milk, ice, and a little honey. The brand is Solgar and you can find it at Sprouts or the Vitamin Shoppe.

Has he had a swallow test done by a speech therapist?? they can tell what level of food he can have. any nutritional drink would work for him--carnation instant breakfast--ensure--boost--heck even milkshakes-and his doctor can prescribe a special protein powder and vitamins for him. i think the paralysis may only be temporary you never know.

but first i would talk to the doctor to see if speech can evaluate him..he might could eat a pureed or soft diet right now. i just have never heard of a strict liquid diet for the rest of his life.

Hi I.,
The book "Juicing for Life" could be a help to your husband as far as meeting his nutritional needs. I got a juicer and that book several years ago and have enjoyed many of the recipes in it.

I just wanted to repeat what a previous poster said about checking in with a Speech Pathologist to do modified barium swallow test. It's an x-ray swallow test that will show exactly what kind of foods/liquids are safely tolerated. Maybe he can up grade to a softer diet?

With my family and friends that have needed these types of drinks and diets it seems Ensure vanilla seems to be their favorite. Keep it in the fridge so that it is always cold.

We also did lots of cream soups (cheese with broccoli, potato with sour cream) and pureed soups (vegetable corn). If they were not homemade, sometimes Campbell soups (Tomato) made with milk was what they seemed to enjoy.

See if your husbands doctors office has samples. Also see if you all can go to a nutritionist. They will also have great suggestions for options.

We made lots of smoothies with Ensure as a base. We would purchase frozen fruit from Costso (their frozen strawberries are excellent) and then we would purchase the really ripe bananas from the grocery store. We would peel and them break them in half, wrap them in saran wrap and freeze them.

To make the smoothies..Take a whole can or half a can of Ensure pour into the blender. add half a cup of berries and one of the frozen half bananas, whip it all together.. It is really good. If he like the chocolate, you can do the same.

To make a banana nut smoothie pour the vanilla Ensure into the blender, 2 of the frozen half bananas, and 1/4 cup (finely chopped)pecans.. blend together.

If constipation happens, you can add some bran to any of the blended mixtures.

I don't know much about drinks for adults but when my son had a problem with weight gain, one of the suggestion was to give him a Scandishake. It's made for adults too and one serving is 600 calories. If you do a websearch, you will find a number for a free sample of it. You should try that to see if it fits your husband's needs.

Good Morning I.. I'm sorry to hear about your husbands battle with several cancers. Shaklee makes some amazing vitamins, shakes/meal drinks, etc. that will assist in giving your husband a boost in energy, complete nutrients and possibly even help shrink the cancer cells. Shaklee products are only sold through a distributer. I just started this business a few weeks ago and have already been exposed to some amazing health improvement testimonials. For example, the Vivix product (resveretrol, the anit-aging component made from grapes that is found in red wine) has show to reduce breast cancer masses (in addition to reducing wrinkles, improving memory, erasing vericose veins, etc. It's a very recent revolutionary breakthrough. I'd be happy to send you more information.
In the meantime, you can go to http://www.shaklee.net/simplygreen to learn more about Shaklee products and testimonials. Shaklee is built on environmental stewardship and has zero impact on global warming by offsetting 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions. For this innovative environmental leadership, Shaklee became the nation's first Climate Neutral Certified company.

I learned about this company from an airing on Oprah, it was on her top ten list. I highly recommend looking more into the Vivix product (possibly can aid in his cancer battle) and the shakes (meal replacements).

Best of luck! Please contact me if you'd like more info. ____@____.com

I would definitely recommend getting a good juicer. You can juice fruits and veggies. I would also highly recommend Xango juice. It is made with the whole fruit puree of the mangosteen fruit, loaded with potent nutrients, including xanthones. We do not make any claims, no nutrional supplement can do that, but you can take a look at the research. Just go to www.pubmed.gov and search mangosteen and/or any other botanical. Especially look at the research pertaining to cancer. (Mangosteen is also referred to as Garcinia Mangostana.) I pray that God give you Grace and discernment. I know this must be very difficult. If you do wish to try Xango, just email me privately, I can help you get it at the best price. More general info at my website: www.TryXJuice.com.
Blessings,
K.

This is what we do for our 5 yr old who has a fear of eating food! Why? Who knows. We blend up raspberries and blackberries (but you can use whatever), spinach, oatmeal, either egg whites (for breakfast), natural deli meat and cashew butter (for lunch), and chicken or salmon (for dinner), plus flaxseed, carrots, broccoli, a yellow/orange pepper slice, and really cold (almost frozen) water plus all of her whole food supplements/vitamins. And she drinks it although we would love for her to do regular food. She has a benign tumor (optic glioma in left eye) and because of nutritional and supplements we have been able to keep it stable and some shrinkage. No medical intervention. Stay away from whey protein and get some good anti-inflamatory supplements (not synthetic). Also check and see the ingredients in Ensure. Even milk is an inflammatory. Stay away from sugar and try to get Stevia (an herb based plant that taste great). I am not a nutritionist but I have researched plenty of tumor related foods/items. Good luck.
