Hi! I am 35 weeks pregnant. I am wondering if anyone knows of any good pediatricians in the conyers area??? Also, what questions do i need to ask the pediatrician and how do I go about find one? My OB/GYN says I need to call the a few places, but I am totally new to this and unsure on how to go about things.

What can I do next?

Hi Ashlee,

To be quite honest, I think the best pediatricians are in the Atlanta area. Before we moved to Covington over 3 years ago, we lived in the Decatur area and my daughter saw Dr. Thomas Calk of Children's Medical Group. In fact, we still use him on occasion. He is an excellent pediatrician, along with all the other doctors in that practice. When my son was born 2 years ago, we begin using Dr. Lisa Miller; I like her and think she has good advice. However, she tends to be more aggressive in her treatments than Calk, who is more conservative. Since you are in Conyers, Children's Medical Group wouldn't be too far to travel...maybe 35 minutes or so. I definitely recommend having 2 pediatricians, just in case you need a second opinion or don't feel absolutely comfortable with one. Children's Medical Group has a website you can visit for more information.... www.cmg-pc.com. Lisa Miller's office # is ###-###-####. Best of luck finding one that's right for you and your baby.

Some good questions to ask are....Are there call-in hours for nervous new parents? Is the office open on weekends? Do you offer breastfeeding support? How often will my baby need to see you for well check-ups in the first year? What is the vaccination schedule for the first year? Do you send home helpful information sheets after each well check-up? (Children's Medical Group does...the hand-outs are great!) Do you have a separate sick and well waiting room? (both Miller and CMG have these). If I call your office the day my child gets sick, can she be seen that same day? You can come up with other good questions that concern you. Hope these help.

You can't go wrong with Dr. Bruce Beeber...everyone I know uses him, and has been forever. I live in Covington and I have girlfriends who travel 30 miles just to have him. He treats each child like his own and every time I go in there, he knows each child by name. He takes time and he listens and answers your questions. He always thanks me for allowing him to see my daughter. And, he's very up to date on the latest treatments and studies and quotes medical journals and attends Emory classes on a regular basis. I just love him!
