Second Pregnancy Question

I am a petite girl, and I know that every pregnancy is different, but after I had my son, I went back to my normal weight (pre-pregnancy). I just found out that I am about 5 weeks pregnant, and I have gained six pounds!!! With the first one, I had LOST 12 pounds during the first trimester! On top of that, I look like I am about 3-4 months pregnant. Has this happened to anybody? The reason that I mention that I am petite, is b/c the size of my belly is quite noticeable.

What can I do next?

Ditto. I am petite as well (5'5" and about 102 lbs.) With my first pregnancy I gained about 34 pounds and with the second I gained 40 pounds and started showing at about 6 weeks. That tummy just popped right out! I breastfed both babies and was back down to my original weight at about 6 months. Still need to tone though! Much harder the second time around to lose that loose skin! Good luck!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I understand how you feel. It took about 5 months with my first for anyone to even notice I was pregnant. With my second at 6 weeks, my dad asked me if I was pregnant (we weren't going to tell anyone until 12 weeks). Then with my third I joke that at conception you could tell I was putting on weight. Also, about the weight loss after birth...be patient with yourself...it takes 9 months to get there and it can take 9 months or more to loose it. For me it took longer to loose the weight with the second and third child. If you are eating right, just love your body...it will grow as needed for your baby and then after birth will eventually get back to your regular size.

The same thing happened to me. Before I had even missed a period. It was the week I was supposed to start. I thought I was very bloated, very irratable, and cramps like crazy. I thought I was about to have the WORST period ever!! My mom and I were making a jumper outfit for me and had pinned it together the week before. I went back and decided to try it on again before my mom made the final stitches, IT DID NOT FIT! I pulled out my smallest pair of maternity pants as I could not button any of my others! The next day I was thinking "I wonder???" so I took a pregnancy test (before I missed a period) and it was positive!!!! In the end I had gained 65 pounds on my 120 pound 5'8" body and was barely fitting into extra large maternity clothes. For Christmas (my daughter was not due till Feb 10th) my brother got me a plus sized outfit size 24W. I could not believe it. My mom said that was what size my grandmother wore when she died!! I felt horrible about myself until 1 week after the baby was born, I had lost ALL but 10 pounds!!!

Anyway, this has happened to others and is probably normal as my doctor never got upset about my weight gain.

Yes, I have seen this many times. I too just recently had my second child, congrats to you all! My stomach also seemed to pop out much quicker this time around. I have a friend who also just had her second baby and is petite and she went through the exact same thing. She grew very fast and in her first pregnancy you could hardly tell she was expecting. Also the fact that the pregnancies are close together has something to do with it.

Congratulations, this is normal. Because your muscles and uterus already going thru this you show alot quicker the second time around. The first time your muscles are tighter and can hide more for longer. About the gaining weight Im not sure, unless you have been eating more that could explain the weight gain.

I got bigger faster with my second child. I felt like I had barely found out I was pregnant when I started wearing my maternity clothes. I gained less weight with my second pregnancy but I did get bigger faster.

I am 5' 2" and while I showed sooner than some of my friends with my first, I at least made it to 4 months before I really needed maternity clothes. With my second, I barely made it past 10 weeks before I was pulling out maternity gear. My first child was 14 months when I got pregnant with the second. It is totally normal for the second pregnancy to show sooner and look bigger. Your muscles, ligaments, etc. give way pretty quickly because they've already done it before. I think this is especially true with pregnancies that are closer than 2 years apart.
I did gain a few more pounds with the second, but he was a bigger baby than his sister. However, I lost it all more quickly after the second than I did with the first. Possibly because I quit nursing sooner, but whatever the reason, I'll take it!
Good luck and congrats!

Yeah, I'm going through that now. With my son I was so sick and lost 10 lbs in my first trimester, but with this one I'm eating like a horse and have gained 8 lbs. I've already had to start buying maternity clothes, but the last time I didn't get into maternity clothes until my 5th month. I'm petite too and all my weight is going straight to my belly and I look 3-5 months pregnant already. However, I've heard, and I'm sure this is just an old wives tale, but I've heard that if you're experiencing totally opposite symptoms, you could be having a girl. Anyway, you're definitely not alone.

Your body "knows" what to do now and will follow suit with your second... you'll show sooner, you'll gain weight sooner, your muscles will be more relaxed sooner. It stinks...but it's just that your body is going kind of like 'oh yeah, we're pregnant again, lets go guys' and they just ruin your waist line immediately. LOL

I am 5'6 and weigh about 108 (BEFORE GOT PREGNANT AGAIN) before I found out I was pregnant again I had gained some weight now I am 12 weeks pregnant and look like I am about 5 months. ( I AM already wearing maternity cloths) They say with your second you show A LOT sooner so I guess it is true. I am nevous that I am not going to loss the weight as well as I did the first time but I will worry about after the baby. All I can say is just eat right but dont over do it. Good luck.

You sound just like me, I am only 5'0, and was so sick my first pregnancy, I lost 15 pounds.. (ended up gaining 40 after 5 months though). My son is 15 months, and am, back to my prepregnancy weight.

Now, I am about 5 weeks pregnant as well, and already am feeling bloated way beyond my first pregnancy. Interesting.
